Swedish government called to recognize SADR as independent state

Submitted on

Stockholm, Feb 16, 2021 (SPS) - The National Youth Council of the Swedish Left approved a resolution at its latest conference calling on the government in Stockholm to recognize the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) as an independent state and to end all economic agreements, covering the occupied Sahrawi territories, concluded with the Kingdom of Morocco.
The resolution further calls on the international community to end the policy of "turning a blind eye" to the "violations" of human rights against the Saharawi people, warning against increased tension due to attempts to legitimize the Moroccan occupation of Western Sahara.
The National Youth Council of the Swedish Left also criticized the European Union (EU) 's "complicity" with the Moroccan occupation force in the illegal exploitation of natural resources in Western Sahara and the legalization of rights violations of Man and International Law through the conclusion of a set of economic agreements.
Finally, the resolution insists on the importance of the organization of the self-determination referendum that the Saharawi people have been waiting for three decades. SPS
