Oslo (Norway), Dec 16, 2020 (SPS) - The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Norway, Ms. Ine Eriksen, stated that “the position of her country is firm and known by both parties, which is based on the support to a political solution in accordance with Security Council resolutions, whose latest resolution 2548 (2020) emphasizes respect for the right of the people of Western Sahara to self-determination.
In a response to the letter sent by more than fifty-three civil society organizations, the Norwegian minister said that her government “follows with deep concern the latest events in Western Sahara, after the end of the ceasefire, which is damaging the political solution and causes uncertainty”.
In this sense, the head of Norwegian diplomacy stressed that “the interruption of the political process for a long period caused frustration, therefore, it is necessary to accelerate the resumption of this operation and create a new dynamic that increases confidence in the negotiating process led by the United Nations, considered as the only practical way to advance in dialogue and negotiations”.
