Abuja, 24 January 2020 (SPS) -  The Nigerian Movement for the Liberation of Western Sahara (NMLWS) has expressed its strong condemnation to the deliberate attempt by Morocco in collaboration with the Confederation of African football (CAF) to host the FUTSAL 2020 Cup of Nations in El-Aaiun, the occupied capital of Western Sahara, from 28 January to 7 February 2020.
“This attempt by Morocco with the assistance of CAF to hoodwink the world through hosting tournaments in military occupied cities of Western Sahara is a violation of international law,” NMLWS declared in a statement.
“To avoid embarrassment in future, we are calling on the CAF to always make use of the African Union or United Nations official maps as a guide when organizing tournaments, meetings and other engagements.”
“These attempts by Morocco to use sports as a toot of legitimizing oppression stands to be condemned by all freedom loving people of the world,” it added.
NMLWS called on the Nigerian Football Federation to take cue from the South African Association and the Federation of Algerian Football who pulled out of the tournament.
Finally, the Nigerian Movement for the Liberation of Western Sahara expressed its determination to take concrete peaceful and legal action against Morocco and its collaborators in furtherance of its campaign to ensure social justice in Africa and end all forms of colonial rule on the African continent.
