London (UK) 7 December 2019 (SPS) - The British Foreign and Commonwealth Office has warned British citizens, against the dangers they could face if they visit Morocco, especially terrorist attacks.
“Terrorists are very likely to try to carry out attacks in Morocco,” the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office warned British citizens, on its official page.
The Office explained that the warning it issued was based on the information and advice provided by UK Counter Terrorism Policing.
It indicated that " there is an increased threat linked to the number of Moroccans sympathetic or belonging to Daesh (formerly referred to as ISIL) and other extremist groups," citing a series of terrorist killings of foreign tourists in Morocco, such as the two Scandinavian tourists, slaughtered by Moroccan extremists in December 2018.
The Foreign Office asked the British citizens to be vigilant in crowded areas, government installations, transportation networks, businesses with Western interests, and areas where foreign nationals and tourists are known to gather may be at higher risk of attack. The warning included the whole of the Moroccan cities known for their tourist interest.
It warned that there is a threat of kidnapping by groups operating in the region, recalling the policy of the British government that makes payments to terrorists illegal. (SPS)
