Vitoria-Gasteiz (Basque Country), 23 November 2019 (SPS) - Sahrawi Prime Minister, Mohamed Louali Akeik, said on Friday in Vitoria-Gasteiz that "all options relating to the Sahrawi people's ongoing fight for independence, including the armed struggle will be examined at the Polisario Front Congress, scheduled for next December."
At a press conference held before the opening of the 44th European Conference of Support and Solidarity with the Sahrawi People (Eucoco), the Sahrawi Prime Minister said that the 2000 delegates will discuss, from 19 to 22 December, all steps to develop an adequate response to blockage in UN peace process.
"All options will be examined, including the armed struggle," Akeik said, noting that "the deadlock in the UN peace process is the result of Moroccan intransigence supported by France and Spain in the UN Security Council.
The Sahrawi leader referred to the recent United Nations resolution 2494 (2019) which extended, by one year, the mandate of the United Nations mission for the organization of a referendum in Western Sahara (Minurso).
The continuation of the current situation is unacceptable, and the Polisario Front will take decisive measures to protect the inalienable right of the Sahrawi people to self-determination and independence, said Akeik.
The resolution, submitted by the United States, calls on the parties to the conflict, the Polisario Front and Morocco, to resume negotiations under the auspices of the United Nations and without preconditions, with a view to reaching a solution guaranteeing the Sahrawi people's right to self-determination.
