New York University hosts a panel discussion on Western Sahara

New York (USA), 25 October 2019 (SPS) Participants in a panel discussion on Western Sahara, organized on Thursday by the University of New York, discussed the UN efforts to resolve the conflict in Western Sahara and the situation of the Saharawis in the refugee camps and in the occupied territories of Western Sahara.

In this context, the representative of the Polisario Front to the UN made a presentation on the efforts made by the Organization to find a solution to the question of Western Sahara, since 1963 placed on the agenda of the United Nations as a question of decolonization.

He stressed the obstacles that have hindered these efforts, obstacles, he said, erected by the Moroccan occupier with the support of certain known parties and the "shameful" silence of the international community, in its treatment of the repercussions of the Moroccan occupation on the Sahrawi people and on the peace and stability of the region.

The meeting was organized at the initiative of the Organization of Portuguese Studies, attended by a number of students and researchers and marked by the screening of documentary film "Four days in occupied Western Sahara, last colony in Africa", directed by journalist and presenter of programme "Democracy Today", Amy Goodman, showing with real images the suffering of Saharawi citizens.
