Morocco delays UN process to strengthen Sahrawi territories’ occupation

Submitted on

Bir Lahlou, 5 October 2019 (SPS)- President of the Republic, Secretary General of the Polisario Front, Brahim Ghlai, affirmed Thursday in a letter sent to the United Nations Secretary General that Morocco is delaying UN process to strengthen the brutal occupation of some Sahrawi territories.
“Moroccan officeals’ recent statements leave no room for doubt about Morocco’s intention, which is to hinder and delay the political process to strengthen the brutal and illegal occupation of some parties of our territory,” he said in this letter.
President Brahim Ghali said “he sincerely hopes” that the delay in the appointment of a new personal envoy of the United Nations for Western Sahara isn’t caused or exacerbated by preconditions imposed by Morocco.
This delay, he added, has paralyzed the political process at the time when “Morocco has increased its destabilizing actions in the territory,” calling, in this regard, to appoint a new mediator who shares “the convictions, determination and stature” of former envoy Horst Kohler. (SPS)
