Algerian Foreign Minister regrets failure to achieve dynamism anticipated by UN Secretary-General in Western Sahara

New York (UN) September 28, 2019 (SPS) - Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Sabri Boukadoum, expressed his country's regret over the failure to achieve the dynamism expected by the UN Secretary-General on the issue of Western Sahara, as well as the resignation of the Secretary-General's personal envoy Mr. Horst Koehler.
In a speech during the discussion session on article 8 of the agenda of the 74th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, the Algerian diplomat underlined that Algeria wishes that the spirit of dialogue between the brothers in the Kingdom of Morocco and the Polisario Front will prevail in order to reach a final solution to the issue of Western Sahara to guarantee the Sahrawi people the exercise of their legitimate right to self-determination according to the principles of the charter of the United Nations and relevant General Assembly and Security Council resolutions.
Mr. Boukadoum renewed his country's strong commitment to its strategic choice aiming at building the structure of the Maghreb Union, which started its first initiative from Algeria three decades ago, stressing his country's full readiness to translate this goal, to which the peoples of the region aspire, into reality.
