AU reiterates support to settlement process of Western Sahara conflict

Addis Ababa, Feb  07, 2019 (SPS) - The President of the Commission of the African Union (AU), Mr. Moussa Fakih Mohamed, reaffirmed the position of the African Union as guarantor of the solution in Western Sahara together with the United Nations in accordance with the decisions and charters of the two organizations
"The issue of Western Sahara remains one of the most important continental issues that has been pending for decades and requires greater efforts and cooperation," said the president of the African Union (AU) during the 34th ordinary session of the foreign ministers of the Council of the African Union (AU).
He added that this issue requires effective cooperation and an intensification of efforts between the African Union and the United Nations to reach a final solution to the conflict in Western Sahara based on decisions of international legitimacy.
The 34th ordinary session of the Executive Council of the African Union (AU) began today in Addis Ababa to prepare the draft decisions of the summit of Heads of State and Government of the AU, to be held on 10 and 11 February,  in the African nation headquarters.SPS
