Awserd (Refugee Camps), October 13, 2018 (SPS) - President of the Republic, Secretary General of the Polisario Front, Brahim Ghali, called on Friday the United Nations Security Council to enable MINURSO (UN Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara) to carry out its mission for which it was created, namely the organization of a referendum on self-determination for the Sahrawi people, reaffirming the need to put an end to the procrastination and intransigence of the Moroccan occupier.
“We call on the Security Council to enable MINURSO to carry out the mission for which it was created, namely the organization of a referendum on self-determination in Western Sahara and to take measures able to protect and enshrine the legal status of Western Sahara as well as its territorial integrity,” said President Ghali in his opening speech of the festivities commemorating the 43rd anniversary of the National Unity coinciding with October 12th.
President Ghali also called to put an end to the Moroccan attempts aimed at using MINURSO as a “tool to legitimate an illegal military occupation.”
“The international community-through the UN general assembly, its committees and Security Council resolutions, expressed its commitment to preserving the legal character of the Sahrawi issue, as it is a decolonization issue that must be resolved by enabling the Sahrawi people to exercise their right to independence, like all the colonized peoples and countries,” added Sahrawi President.
“It is time to put an end to the sufferings of the Sahrawi people who have resisted for a long time,” he stressed, calling once again to end the Moroccan occupier’s intransigence. (SPS)
