Debate IV Commission: Latin American and Caribbean States Community reiterates its support to the people of Western Sahara right to self-determination

New York, October 10, 2018 (SPS) -The Permanent Mission of El Salvador before the United Nations, speaking on behalf of the 33 states that make up the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), has reaffirmed on Tuesday the support of these countries for UN efforts to reach a solution that will lead to the self-determination of the people of Western Sahara.
During his intervention in the general debate on the issues of decolonization, Special Political and Decolonization Committee, 73 "session of the General Assembly, Mr. Rubén Armando Escalante Hasbún, Permanent Representative of El Salvador to the United Nations, reiterated the support of those nations to the decolonization process.
The Community of Latin American and Caribbean States "continues to strongly support the efforts of the Secretary General and his Personal Envoy to reach a just, lasting and mutually acceptable political solution that will lead to the self-determination of the people of Western Sahara in the context of agreements compatible with the principles and purposes of the Charter of the United Nations.
