Submitted on

Tokyo, October 6, 2018 (SPS) - A delegation of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mohamed Salem Ould Salek, has taken part in the Ministerial Meeting of the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD), in Tokyo, Japan, from 06 to 07 October 2018, in preparation of the 7th TICAD Summit of Heads of State and Governments (TICAD VII) that will be hosted in Yokohama, Japan, during August 2019.
Morocco with the complicity of the host country, tried to prevent the holding of this meeting because of the presence of the Sahrawi state, threatening to boycott it, but the strong position of the African Union countered all these maneuvers.
The African countries reiterated their unswerving solidarity with the Sahrawi State, in accordance with the decisions of the African Union and its Constitutive Charter, expressing the willingness to impose respect for the continental organization by foreign partners, as it was the case with the EU at the EU-AU conference in November in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire.
The Meeting will focus primarily on the review of progress made by the TICAD process since the conclusion of the 6th TICAD Summit, hosted in Nairobi, Kenya, during August 2016, and the TICAD Ministerial Review Meeting, concluded in Maputo, Mozambique, during August 2017. (SPS)
