POLISARIO confirms its attendance to Geneva meeting in the framework of cooperation with UN Envoy efforts

Chahid El Hafed, October 3, 2018 (SPS) - The Permanent Bureau of the National Secretariat of the Frente POLISARIO in reviwing the invitation issued by President Horst Köhler, Personal Envoy of the Secretary General of the United Nations to the parties to the conflict in Western Sahara, the Frente POLISARIO and the Kingdom of Morocco and the two observer countries, Mauritania and Algeria, to attend the Geneva meeting in early December 2018, expressed the readiness of the Saharawi side to attend this meeting.
In a statement released after the conclusion of its meeting on Wednesday, the Permanent Bureau of the National Secretariat of the Frente POLISARIO welcomed the continued efforts of the UN and the willingness to cooperate with the UN envoy, including his assistance to the UN Geneva meeting to end the dispute and conclude the decolonization of the last colony in Africa.
In this regard, he expressed "the hope that this meeting will be a real opportunity to achieve tangible progress towards breaking the current impasse, highlighting the responsibility and the role of the UN Security Council to urge the Kingdom of Morocco to accelerate the entry in direct negotiations, in good faith and without preconditions with the only legitimate representative of the Saharawi people, in accordance with the resolutions of the Council, including resolution 2414(2018). "
In a related context, the Frente POLISARIO takes note of the interventions of the Heads of State and Government and of the delegations during the current session of the General Assembly of the United Nations, where they have emphasized the need to accelerate the implementation of the resolutions of the United Nations to allow the Saharawi people to exercise their right to independence.
