EU-Morocco agreement including Sahrawi territories: Polisario Front firmly condemns, lodges appeal to CJEU

Bir Lahlou, July 16, 2018 (SPS) - The Polisario Front has firmly condemned on Monday the decision taken by the European Union Council to sign an amendment to the EU-Morocco association agreement, including the occupied Sahrawi territories, denouncing this act which scorns the international law and decisions of the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) which invalidated these agreements.
The EU foreign minister Council announced this Monday its decision to adapt the agricultural agreement with the Moroccan Kingdom by including Western Sahara, underlining that this agreement will be submitted to the European Parliament for adoption.
In a response to this decision, the Polisario Front calls on “the European Parliament to assume all its responsibilities” and to “reject this illegal proposal of the Commission,” said a communiqué.
“The Parliament, a democratic body, is an institutional representative of law and must condemn the Commission’s drift,” added the Polisario Front, while welcoming the development of relations with the European parliamentarians and expressing its willingness to strengthen a healthy cooperation.
“If the transition to force is to prevail, the Polisario Front will have only to attack this decision at CJEU. It is the Sahrawi people who implement the European law against the political willingness of the European leaders,” warned the Polisario Front.
Taking into account the political choices of EU Council, the Polsario Front decided to lodge an appeal to the Court of Justice of the European Union for “the harm caused to the Sahrawi people,” said the communiqué. (SPS)
