EU encourages all parties to commit themselves to a solution in line with Security Council guidelines

Brussels, August 20, 2017 (SPS) - The European Union (EU) welcomed the appointment of former German President Horst Koehler as personal envoy of the UN Secretary-General for Western Sahara, indicated EU spokesperson that continues to "encourage all parties to engage in the search for a solution in accordance with the guidelines of the Security Council and the principles of the Charter of the United Nations ".
"We welcome the appointment of former President Horst Koehler as the personal envoy of the UN Secretary-General for Western Sahara and the EU looks forward to working with him." We continue to encourage all parties "to engage in a cooperative search for a solution in accordance with the guidelines of the Security Council and the principles and objectives of the Charter of the United Nations, "the EU spokesperson indicated in a statement.
"We take this opportunity to pay tribute to his predecessor, Christopher Ross, for his constant commitment," he added.
The Polisario Front expressed its satisfaction on Thursday with the appointment on Wednesday by the UN Secretary-General of former German President Horst Kohler as his personal envoy for Western Sahara, while calling on the Security Council and the Secretary General of the United Nations to "facilitate the mission of Mr. Koehler and put an end to the paralysis and suffering which have persisted for many years."
