Algerian aid to Saharawi refugees purely humanitarian

Submitted on

Algiers, March 30, 2017 (SPS) - The head of the Algerian Red Crescent, Saida Benhabyles, said Wednesday that Algeria's aid to Western Sahara people was purely humanitarian and not politically motivated.
"In Algeria, we do not exploit ordeals of the others for political purposes," Benhabyles said while supervising the departure of a humanitarian aid caravan to Saharawi refugee camps in Tindouf.
All relevant initiatives are "purely humanitarian," she insisted.
Solidarity is part of Algerian people's culture and one of their authentic values, the head of the Algerian Red Crescent added.
"We never mix politics and humanitarian aid," she stressed.
"Algeria is among the rare countries that provide aid and assistance for purely humanitarian purposes."
It is "the only country which provides to African refugees the same health care it provides to Algerian citizens," Benhabyles said.  SPS
