Algiers, March 6, 2017 (SPS) – President of the Republic, Secretary-General of the Polisario Front, Brahim Ghali, has expressed hope that the US current administration led by Donald Trump will contribute in accelerating a just, lasting and democratic solution in Western Sahara, through the urgent application of the UN and AU settlement plan in 1991.
President Ghali highlighted in an interview with Algerian El Khabar newspaper published Monday that "the US position is principled and consistent with the responsibility of the United States as a permanent member of the UN Security Council, and we hope the current administration, led by Donald Trump, will contribute to the acceleration of the solution."
He also confirmed that the US position on the issue of Western Sahara has always been supportive of the efforts of the UN Secretary-General and his Personal Envoy
Regarding the role of the new United Nations Secretary General, Brahim Ghali stressed “Antonio Guterres has more information and knowledge on the conflict of Western Sahara than any other UN Secretary-General. We hope this accurate knowledge will be a helping factor, or even decisive in making the new Secretary-General ends the stalemate preventing the solution of the Moroccan-Sahrawi conflict, to complete the decolonization of Western Sahara, enable its people to their right, and put an end to the policy of obstruction, delay and recklessness towards the international organization adopted by the Kingdom of Morocco."  (SPS)
