Smara, 27 Feb 2017 (SPS) The festivities celebrating the 41st anniversary of the proclamation of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) began on Monday in Smara with wide international participation.
These festivities began with the raising of the national flag and the singing of the national anthem "Ana Errafik el Moustahel", first performed in Bir Lahlou after the SADR proclamation on February 27, 1976, following the departure of the last Spanish soldier from the Saharawi territories.
The celebrations program includes several parades, an exhibition of handicrafts, and the final of the SADR cup.
On the second day of the festivities scheduled for Tuesday, the Sahara Marathon will be organized, with the participation of more than 500 athletes from different countries, besides the Children's Olympiad and the inauguration of new educational establishments.
The festivities will be closed with a demonstration of solidarity with the Saharawi cause, and then a tourist trip in the desert.  (SPS)
