Madrid, Dec 24, 2016 (SPS) - The Trade Union Confederation of Spanish Workers' Commissions (CCOO-Spanish) called for a rally on Tuesday in front of the Moroccan Embassy in Madrid to express solidarity with the Sahrawi political prisoners of Gdeim Izik Group.
The Confederation expressed its support and solidarity with the Sahrawi political prisoners, demanding the application of their demands, notably a trial in Western Sahara occupied territories and their transfer to a prison close to their families, according to a communiqué from the CCOO published on its website Saturday.
It also called for "the initiation of an investigation into the violations of international humanitarian law that they (the Sahrawi political prisoners) have suffered for six years, including the torture and heavy sentences imposed on them and the violation of their right to be defended."
In this context, several Spanish cities have decided to organize demonstrations to express their support and solidarity with the Sahrawi political prisoners of Gdeim Izik group, which trial is expected from next Monday.
In Madrid, the Spanish associations’ coordination of solidarity with Sahara (CEAS-Sahara) called for a rally in front of Morocco embassy to demand the release of the Sahrawi political prisoners on 27th December.
The political prisoners, called "group of Gdeim Izik," demanded, four days before their new trial, their "immediate and unconditional" release and the conviction of Moroccan officials for "arbitrary detentions." (SPS)
