SADR takes part in 17th Summit of Non-Aligned Movement

Margarita (Venezuela), Septemeber 19, 2016 (SPS) - A Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic (RASD) delegation led by Deputy Minister in Charge of Relations with Latin America, Mansur Omar, attended the 17th Summit of Non-Aligned Movement, held on the Venezuelan island of Margarita, September 13-18.

On the sidelines of the Summit, the Sahrawi delegation had several meetings with participating delegations on the situation in Western Sahara, in particular the current tension in the region due to the Moroccan flagrant violation of the agreement of the cease-fire signed between the Polisario Front and the Kingdom of Morocco in 1991.

The delegations of Algeria, Venezuela, Cuba, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Nicaragua, Nigeria, Angola, South Africa, Mozambique, Ecuador, Tanzania, Timor took the opportunity to call on Morocco to respect the right of the Sahrawi people to self-determination and independence, denouncing the human rights violations in the occupied Sahrawi territories and the illegal plundering of the resources of this territory.

They also called on the United Nations and the Non-aligned Movement to exert pressure on the Moroccan occupier to comply with international legality and allow the Sahrawi people to enjoy their rights to self-determination and independence. (SPS)
