Italians House and Senate express solidarity with Saharawi people struggle‏

Roma, March 18, 2016 (SPS) -  Members of the Chamber of Deputies and the Italian Senate expressed "solidarity with the struggle of the Saharawi people and their commitment to the defense of respect for international law and human rights, durante hosting a Saharawi delegation at the headquarters of Parliament composed of the President of the Saharawi Human rights Commission, Mr. Abba Salek Al-Haisan, President of the Sahrawi Association of Victims of Grave Violations Committed by the Moroccan State (ASVDH ), Mr. Brahim Dahan, and the Deputy Representative of the Frente POLISARIO in Rome, Ms. Fatima Mahfud ".
 
The Saharawi delegation was received by President of the Human Rights Commission of the Senate, Mr. Luigi Manconi, President of the Human Rights Commission of the Chamber of Deputies, Mr. Gianni Farina, and the president of the Italian Parliamentary Solidarity Group with the Saharawi People, Mr. Stefano Bacari, who were informed about the latest developments on the conflict in Western Sahara and the UN efforts to accelerate the decolonization of the territory.
The members of the Saharawi delegation also informed the members of the Italian parliament on violations of  human rights suffered by Saharawi civilians in the Occupied Territories of Western Sahara and the impact of the hunger strike carried out by the Saharawi political prisoners of Gdeim Izik Group, emphasizing the importance of the House and the Italian Senate to  dispatch  delegations to the Occupied Territories, refugee camps and the liberated Territories of the Saharawi Republic to join the calls of the international community for the extension of the mandate of the UN mission in the territory, MINURSO, to monitor and report on the situation of human rights.
