Bir Lehlou (Saharawi Republic) 31 May 2020 (SPS)– The Saharawi National Commission for Human Rights (CONASADH), called on the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), to urgently intervene for the release of Saharawi political prisoners in Morocco, to protect them from possible Covid-19 infection.
In a letter sent to the President of the ICRC, Mr. Peter Maurer, CONASADH, expressed deep concern about the situation of the Saharawi prisoners under the bad conditions of Moroccan jails and the spread of Covid-19 in many Moroccan prisoners.

Madrid, 31 May 2020 (SPS) - Spanish MP for the Galician Nationalist Bloc, Mr. Néstor Rego Candamil, has seized the Spanish government over the recent incident caused by the Minister of Foreign Affairs by deleting the flag of the Sahrawi Republic among the flags of the African continent countries in a tweet on its official Twitter account on the occasion of Africa Day, which coincides with the 57th anniversary of the founding of the Organization of African Unity, the African Union, the organization of which the Sahrawi Republic is among its founding members.

Bir Lehlu (Liberated Areas), May 27, 2020 (SPS) - Coinciding with the end of Ramadan and the celebration of Eid al-Fitr, the President of the Republic, Secretary General of the Frente POLISARIO, Brahim Gali, has signed the decree presidency through which the pardon and commutation of sentences are announced in favor of several convicted by the courts of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic.

Algiers (Algeria) 27 May 2020 (SPS)- The Algerian Foreign Minister, Sabri Boukadoum, confirmed on Tuesday that all manoeuvres against the international efforts for peace in Western Sahara "will fail in the face of the justice of the Sahrawi people’s cause."
Mr. Boukadoum said that his country regrets "the failure to achieve the desired dynamic in the issue of Western Sahara, which has not yet reached settlement."

Thirty Nine political prisoners, amongst them Mahafouda El Fakir (who was released on the 15 May 2020) have found themselves as victims of gross human rights violations by the Moroccan regime.
Their only crime was and remains a demand for the freedom and independence of their homeland, Western Sahara, from Moroccan tyranny.

Windhoek (Namibia) 26 May 2020 (SPS)- The President of Namibia, H.E. Hage Geingob, called on Morocco to implement UN resolutions to decolonize Western Sahara, in his speech on the occasion of Africa Day 2020.

Harare (Zimbabwe) 25 May 2020 (SPS)- The President of Zimbabwe, H.E. Emmerson Mnangagwa, reaffirmed on Sunday his country’s position in favour of the right of the people of Western Sahara to self-Determination.
Speaking on the occasion of Africa Day, H.E. President Mnangagwa stated that “Zimbabwe continues to reaffirm its position on the right of Western Sahara to self-determination.”

Brussels, 25 May 2020 (SPS) - The week of solidarity with the peoples of the Non-self-Governing Territories proclaimed by the General Assembly of the United Nations between 25 and 31 May, must be an opportunity to remind member states and international opinion that many peoples are still deprived of their fundamental and imprescriptible right to self-determination, announced on Sunday the European Conference on Support and Solidarity with the Saharawi People (EUCOCO).

Dublin (Ireland) 21 May 2020 (SPS)- Front Line Defenders expressed deep concerns in a Press Release issued Today, regarding the “arbitrary detention of Ibrahim Mrikli and the charges brought against him” by the Moroccan authorities of occupation, “in direct reprisal for his peaceful and legitimate human rights work, documenting violations in Western Sahara.”

Chahid Al Hafed (refugee camps), May 20, 2020 (SPS) - The Saharawi people commemorates todays, May 20th, the 47-year anniversary of the outbreak of armed struggle in Western Sahara, to reiterate their commitment and attachment to regain their legitimate rights by all means.
On this day, 20 May 1973, the Frente POLISRIO  announced the outbreak of armed struggle against the Spanish occupation, only 10 days after its creation on 10 May of the same year.

Madrid, 18 May 2020 (SPS) - The Association of Sahrawi Journalists and Writers in Europe has condemned the unfair sentence issued by the so-called Court of Appeal of the Moroccan occupation against Sahrawi media activist, Khatri Faraji Bujama, of 20 years imprisonment, because of his political positions in favour of independence of Western Sahara and the self-determination of the Saharan people.

Paris, 17 May 2020 (SPS) - The European Union (EU) is following with great interest and concern the impact of the Coronavirus pandemic on Sahrawi civilian prisoners in Moroccan jails, the head of the European Parliament's Subcommittee on Human Rights has confirmed.
