Sahrawi Republic takes part in AU meeting on rights of women and girls

Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), 16 December 2018 (SPS) – Minister of Social Welfare and Promotion of Women, Mahfuda Rahal, has taken part in the meeting under the auspices of the African Union to accelerate the ratification, domestication and implementation of the Protocol on Women’s Rights.

US Administration still committed to resolve Western Sahara conflict

Washington, December 15, 2018  – The US administration renewed its interest and commitment to resolve Western Sahara conflict, insisting on "stronger, more effective mandate" of Minurso to push forward the UN process.
The US position has been reaffirmed Thursday by Ambassador John Bolton, Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs who expressed "frustration" over the stalemate of the Sahrawi question, 27 years after the UN has instituted MINURSO for the organization of self-determination referendum in this territory. 

A Saharawi political prisoner begins an open hunger strike

EU-Morocco Agreement: Frente POLISARIO denounces European Parliament Committee’s "shameful" vote

Strasbourg, Dec 11, 2018 (SPS) -  Frente POLISARIO representative to Europe Mohamed Sidati has denounced on Tuesday the adoption by the European Parliament’s Committee on International Trade (INTA) of the report of the controversial Eurodeputy Patricia Lalonde, which provides for the expansion of the EU-Morocco Agricultural Agreement to the occupied Western Sahara territory
It is "shameful" to approve a document which author has been forced to step down over "conflict of interests".

"On behalf of the Saharawi people, the government and my own, I take this opportunity to express the warmest congratulations to the government and people of Kenya for the national day of the sister republic," says the letter sent by the Saharawi leader.

UN General Assembly: 36 resolutions adopted, including one relating to Western Sahara conflict

New York, December 10, 2018 (SPS) - The United Nations General Assembly adopted, in its 73rd session, 36 resolutions and 4 decisions relating to issues of decolonization, including that relating to Western Sahara.
In the same document, the special committee in charge of studying the situation concerning the implementation of the Declaration on granting independence to colonial countries and peoples is called to continue monitoring the situation in Western Sahara and to present a report on the issue in the 74th General Assembly.

Polisario Front calls to speed up implementation of Security Council’s resolution 2440

Permanent Bureau considers recent CJEU resolution as confirmation that Western Sahara and Kingdom of Morocco are separate and distinct countries

Ministry of Information refutes rumors about aborting of criminal scheme in Sahrawi refugee camps

Bir-Lahlou (Liberated Territories), December 9, 2018 (SPS) - The Ministry of Information has issued a statement, in which it refuted media coverage about aborting of a criminal scheme in the Sahrawi refugee camps.
“What has been reported by some media platforms about aborting of a criminal scheme, is an exaggerated rhetoric and out of right,” said the statement.
“It was about a suspect in question arrested by the Sahrawi police in the wilaya of Smara, who was held in detention pending the completion of investigations and referral to justice.”

Sahrawi people reject all solution outside self-determination right

Geneva (Switzerland), December 9, 2018 (SPS) - The Polisario Front representative in Switzerland Omeima Mahmoud Abdel Salam renewed the rejection of the Sahrawi people and its sole representative, the Polisario Front, of all solutions outside their inalienable right to self-determination, so that they can express themselves in a just, democratic and transparent manner on Western Sahara future under the UN auspices.

9th FICA: “Bidun Hawiya” screened in Algiers

Algiers, December 2018 (SPS) - Nayat Ahmed Abdeslam’s “Bidun Hawiya” (Sahrawis without nationality), a short film on the ordeal of the Sahrawi nationals in Spain to have a nationality, was presented Wednesday, in Algiers, as part of the 9th International Film Festival of Algiers (FICA), in the presence its director.
A Sahrawi-Spanish co-production, the film features in 20 minutes the issue of losing identity of the people of Spain’s last colony and currently occupied by Morocco, emphasizing all the difficulties to have a nationality.

Geneva round table relaunches negotiations process

Geneva (Switzerland), December 7, 2018 (SPS) - The two-day round table on Western Sahara wrapped up on Thursday in Geneva. At the end of the works, UN Special Envoy for Western Sahara Horst Kohler has presented the final  communiqué.
The communiqué says that the round table has been convened "by UN Special Envoy for Western Sahara Horst Kohler" in conformity with the Resolution 2440 of the UN Security Council.
