It is unacceptable UN does not protect human rights in Western Sahara, says Ghali

Algiers, March 31, 2018 (SPS) - President of the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) and Secretary General of the Polisario Front Brahim Ghali on Friday, in Algiers, said it is unacceptable that the United Nations, which is directly responsible for the conflict zone in Western Sahara, is "absent" from protecting and monitoring human rights, welcoming Algeria's support to the Saharawi people's and their right to self-determination.

UN for SADR-Morocco direct, unconditional negotiations

Sidati alerts EU to serious human rights situation in occupied Western Sahara

Brussels, March 31, 2018 (SPS) - Sahrawi Minister for Europe Mohamed Sidati on Thursday has alerted, once again, the European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission, Federica Mogherini, to the serious situation of Sahrawi human rights activists in the occupied Western Sahara.
"We reiterate the alert we launched on 15 March 2018 in a letter to Mogherini," Sidati told APS.

MINURSO: Guterres proposes $53.87 million budget during year 2018-19

New York, March 31, 2018 (SPS) – UN General Secretary Antonio Guterres has proposed a budget of $53.87 million to maintain the functioning of the UN Mission for the referendum in Western Sahara (Minurso) for the mandate from 1 July 2018 to 30 June 2019.
The budget proposal does not include voluntary contributions worth $ 519,000, according to the General Secretariat document, seen by APS.

Association for solidarity with the Saharawi people was established in Brazil

Brasilia, Brazil, March 29, 2018 (SPS) - A new association of solidarity with the Sahrawi people was established on Tuesday, 27 March 2018, in the presence of Frente POLISARIO representative in Brazil,  Embarek Ahmed, who gave an extensive presentation on the latest developments in the Sahrawi issue, in Brazil.
The former Brazilian MP, Ms. Maria José, was appointed as the President of the Association, Mr. Marcos Tenorio as Vice-President of the Assembly and Mr. Fernando as secretary.

Australian Parliament discusses developments in Sahara issue

Moroccan occupation force imposes tighten siege on occupied Dakhla after Saharawi young activist assassination

Dajla (Occupied Territories), March 28, 2018 (SPS) - The Moroccan occupation forces imposed a military siege on the occupied city of Dakhla, after the assassination of the Saharawi young activist, Abdelfatah Ahmedzain.
The Moroccan police forces violently intervened after the Saharawi people, in the aforementioned city, came out in protest to express their solidarity with the activist's family and express their rejection of the occupation, demanding the exercise of the right to self-determination.

EU-Morocco fisheries agreement: European Commission will abide by CJEU’s ruling

Serbia supports UN process in Western Sahara

Belgrade, March 25, 2018 (SPS) - Serbian Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic has reaffirmed his country's position on the Western Sahara issue, stressing that "Serbia has never changed its position on this issue."
Hosting a press conference with Foreign Minister Abdelkader Messahel, on a visit to Serbia, Ivica Dacic reiterated Serbia's commitment to international legality and support to the United Nations efforts to resolve the Western Sahara conflict on the basis of dialogue between the two parties and without preconditions. Kohler meets with Acting Assistant Secretary of State for Near East Affairs

Washington, March 25, 2018 (SPS) - United Nations Secretary General’s Personal Envoy for Western Sahara Horst Kohler met in Washington with Acting Assistant Secretary of State for Near East Affairs David Satterfield with whom he held discussions on prospects of settlement of conflict in Western Sahara.
The discussions were held as part of the broadened consultations initiated by the German mediator to relaunch UN process, in deadlock since 2012.
