Western Sahara self-determination process draws little international attention

Paris, Jan 20, 2018 (SPS) - The political process for self-determination of Western Sahara has remained at a standstill with little international attention, noted Human Rights Watch (HRW) in its new report in Paris on Thursday.
"The political process for self-determination of Western Sahara, a territory under Moroccan control, remained stalled with little international mediation or attention," said the HRW in its World Report 2018 on human rights.

Algiers, Jan 11, 2018 (SPS) - The National Algerian Committee of Solidarity with the Sahrawi People (CNASPS) hailed Wednesday, with great satisfaction, the conclusions of the Advocate general of the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) Wathelet, who said that the fisheries agreement concluded between the European Union and Morocco is “invalid,” said the Committee in a communiqué.

Brussels Jan 09, 2018 (SPS)- The fisheries agreement concluded between the European Union (EU) and Morocco is invalid because of its implementation on Western Sahara and its territorial waters, according to the findings of the advocate general of the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU), published on Wednesday.

Boujdour (Sahrawi refugee camps), Jan 09, 2018 (SPS)- President of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) and Secretary General of the Frente POLISARIO Brahim Gali affirmed Tuesday, in Boujdour, that the Sahrawi State is determined to honour its commitments as part of the African Union (AU) concerning the enshrinement of the rule of law and fight against all forms of organized crime and terrorism, despite the various difficulties resulting from an exceptional situation because of the iniquitous Moroccan occupation  of some parts of the Sahrawi territory.

Washington (U.S.A), Jan 09, 2018 (SPS) -  The famous Boston newspaper The Christian Science Monitor addresses, in a thorough investigation, the extent of censorship on Morocco where Monarchy has a complete control on press, reinforcing trend on self-censorship.
In this regard, the government in Morocco uses several ways “to stifle the press: harassment, arrest, fines, suspension and economic pressure from advertisers close to the monarchy,” according to this investigation funded by the Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting.

WSRW affirmed that in 2017, Morocco devoted most of the financial support of the European Union (EU) to fisheries for the illegal development of this industry in occupied Western Sahara, with the "explicit approval" of the European Union.

Chahid El-Hafed, Jan 02, 2018 (SPS) – The General Assembly of the Sahrawi Lawyers Union has denounced the plunder and the illegal exploitation of Western Sahara natural resources by the Moroccan occupation forces.
The Union also denounced the unfair trials of the detainees of Gdeim Izik group, calling on the international community to put pressure on Morocco to bring it to comply with the international law and create a UN body for the protection of the Sahrawi people.
