EU urged to compensate Sahrawi people over illegal exploitation of natural resources

Brussels, Jan 31, 2018 (SPS) - The Sahrawi minister delegate for Europe, member of the National Secretariat Mohamed Sidati called to “compensate the Sahrawi people following the exploitation of its natural wealth without its agreement or the consulting of its sole legitimate representative, the Polisario Front”.

Bir Lahlou (occupied territories), Jan 31, 2018 (SPS) - The Sahrawi government hailed the decision adopted by the 30th ordinary summit of the African Union held recently in Addis Ababa, which calls on the two member States of the organization, the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic, and the kingdom of Morocco, to engage in direct, serious discussions without preconditions, and to take the measures necessary for the organization of a self-determination referendum in Western Sahara in order to put an end to their conflict.

AU XXXth Summit of Heads of State and Government in Addis Ababa works concludes

Addis Ababa, Jan 30, 2018 (SPS) - The works of the Thirtieth Summit of Heads of State and Government of the African Union (AU) wrapped up on Monday with the commitment of African leaders to seek institutional reforms and strengthen the unity of the continent.
At the end of the summit, on the theme "Win the fight against corruption: a sustainable path for the transformation of Africa", the current president of the AU, Paul Kagame, reaffirmed his commitment to continue the process of institutional reforms of the continental organization.

Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), Jan 30, 2018 (SPS) - The final statment that closed the Thirtieth Summit of the African Union (AU), held on the 28th and 29th of January in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, specifically called for the resumption of direct negotiations between its two member states, the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) and the Kingdom of Morocco.

Paris, Jan 30,2018 (SPS) - The General Assembly of the Association of Friends of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic in France (AARSD) expressed on Sunday its willingness to continue its cooperation with the Sahrawi refugee camps and to undertake new initiatives in favor of respect for human rights in the occupied territories of Western Sahara.

AU urges Morocco to facilitate conduct of Fact Finding Mission in Western Sahara Territory

Addis Ababa, Jan 29, 2017 (SPS) -The African Union Executive Council (AUC), which met on the occasion of the 30th AU Summit in Addis Ababa, on Monday urged Morocco to facilitate the conduct of the Fact Finding Mission in Western Sahara Territory under the implementation of the decision 689 adopted in 2012 by the 20th CUA session.
The AU also called on Morocco “to sign and ratify the African Charter on Human and Peoples' Rights and the relevant mechanisms for the defence of human rights.”

ACAT awards 2017 human rights prize to Naama Asfari

Paris, Jan 27, 2017 (SPS) - The Action by Christians for the Abolition of Torture (ACAT) awarded Saturday, in Paris, its 2017 human rights prize to Naama Asfari, a Sahrawi activist imprisoned in Morocco since November 2010.
The prize was given to his wife Claude Mangin who read movingly a letter from Naama, in a ceremony to which participated more than one hundred people.
“We shouldn’t give up. The struggle continues,” said the Sahrawi activist who was a victim of torture and violent acts when he was arrested by the Moroccan authorities.

Meeting with Kohler, frank and positive, says Kheddad

Swiss multinational Glencore ends its illegal oil exploration in occupied Western Sahara

London, Jan 26, 2018 (SPS) - The Swiss multinational Glencore has ended all its illegal oil exploration activities in the territorial waters of Western Sahara, occupied by Morocco, said the Western Sahara Resource Watch (WSRW) in a statement.
Glencore, one of the world's largest companies present in the occupied territory since 2013, has left the Boujdour Offshore Shallow oil exploration block, said the source.

Call to “immediately” include human rights monitoring in MINURSO mandate

London, Jan 26, 2017 (SPS) - In its annual report of 2018, published on Wednesday, Western Sahara Action Forum (WSAF) called to “immediately” extend the mandate of the United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO) to include human rights monitoring in this occupied territory.
MINURSO must be able to make reports on the situation of human rights and in the Western Saharan zones occupied by Morocco and send its findings to the UN Security Council, recommended WSAF.

Havana, Jan 25, 2018 (SPS) - A delegation from the Saharawi embassy in Cuba, composed of the Chargé d'Affaires of the Embassy of the SADR in Cuba, Mohamed Ali Ali Salem and the Cultural Attaché, Abdel Mayid Ahmed Nayi, has visited, during the last two days, the Sahrawi students in the universities in the provinces of Cienfuegos and Villa Clara.

Council of Saharawi Doctors holds its general assembly to renew its structures

Shaheed El-Hafed, January 22, 2018 (SPS) - The Council of Sahrawi Doctors held Monday a meeting to renovate its structures, following the last congress of the Polisario Front, in the presence of members of the National Secretariat of the Polisario Front , the SADR Government and Sahrawi doctors.
In his speech, the Minister of Public Health, Mohamed Lamine Deddi, highlighted the importance of holding this gathering, praising the spirit of patriotism, perseverance and discipline that characterize the work of the doctors.

AU PRC opens with participation of Sahrawi Republic

Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) January 22, 2018 (SPS) – The 35th Ordinary Session of the AU Permanent Representatives Committee (PRC) has officially opened Monday at the African Union Headquarters with the participation of a Sahrawi delegation led by Ambassador to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the African Union, Lamine Baali, in preparation for the next session of the AU Executive Council.

Eurostat urged to correct map limiting borders of Western Sahara to liberated territories

Brussels, Jan 21, 2018 (SPS) - MEPs Bodil Valero and Florent Marcellesi urged the European Statistical Office (Eurostat) to correct a world map on its database on intra and extra-community trade (Comext) that limits the borders of Western Sahara to the territories liberated by the Polisario Front.
On this database (Comext), there is also a map of Morocco that presents a single territory ranging from the north of this country to the south of Western Sahara, relegated to the status of province of southern Morocco.
