Bir Lehlou (occupied territories), 31/07/2005 (SPS) Polisario Front
paid "an accentuated tribute" to the Saharawi resistance in the
occupied territories of Western Sahara, calling the international
community to pressure Morocco put an end to this systematic suppression
of the
population under Moroccan occupation and exhorting the UN to pay more
efforts towards the finishing of the process of decolonisation of
non-self-governing territory.
Meeting this Sunday in ordinary session in Bir Lehlou, the National
Secretariat (NS), the highest political body of the Polisario Front,
gave "special attention to the legitimate and heroic resistance of the
Saharawi populations under occupation". It denounced the systematic
suppression these populations are subjected to since last May,
indicated the final press release of the meeting ; of which SPS
received a copy.
In the face of the seriousness of this humanitarian situation the
National Secretariat addressed an urgent appeal to the international
community so as "to compel Morocco stop its repression, to immediately
release all Saharawi political prisoners without any conditions", (…)
"to ensure protection to the defenceless populations and to open the
Saharawi territory to visitors and foreign Medias", the text underlined.
Concerning the efforts of peace for the decolonisation of Western
Sahara, the highest Saharawi political body noted "with satisfaction
the designation of Mr. Peter Van Walsum as the UN Secretary General
Personal Envoy for Western Sahara", hoping that this will help to the
enforcement of the UN’s resolutions of the conflict.
The press release expressed the Saharawi indignation in front of "the
policy of plundering of natural resources in Western Sahara and the
will of the Moroccan occupation to associate foreign partners".
In this respect, the NS "considers as illegal and immoral the signature
by the European Union with Morocco of an accord of fishing that
includes the territorial waters of Western Sahara".
On another hand it hailed the honourable position of Norway, "which has
taken the decision to disinvest all the funds of the Central Bank of
Norway of the oil company Kerr Mcgee, which persists in its shameful
collaboration with the occupant, in complete disdain to the UN’s
opinion", the text added.
The National Secretariat also asked "the Parliaments and Governments of
the Member States of the EU as well as the EU’s Parliament not to adopt
this accord, which enforcement may aggravate the situation on the
ground and thus complicate the perspectives of peace", the text
stressed.
The press release finally hailed "the recognition of SADR by the
Republic of Kenya, the opening of a Saharawi Embassy in Nairobi as well
as the establishment of the diplomatic relations between Tanzania and
Zambia at ambassadorial level". The text also paid a special tribute to
the brother Algerian people and Government for the "constant and
indefectible support of principle to the just and legitimate struggle"
of the Saharawi people. (SPS)

El Aaiun (occupied territories),
31/07/2005 (SPS) A peaceful demonstration took place Sunday evening in
the vacations campus in Foum El Ouad (beach of El Aaiun- 25 k, in the
west of the capital), to protest against Moroccan human rights
violations in Western Sahara and to express their refusal of the
deployment by Moroccan colonial authorities of more than 200 new
gendarmes in the campus, indicated the correspondent of SPS on the
ground.
"At about 22.00 GMT hundreds Saharawis marched towards the brigade of
the gendarmes in Foum El Ouad beach to protest against the behaviours
of these agents, who do not save an opportunity to harass or intimidate
the Saharawis in the beach", declared to SPS a human right activist who
required anonymity "otherwise I can easily be arrested for an imaginary
crime or simply beaten in the street if my name is publicised".
Demonstrators chanted slogans calling for the respect of human rights
in Western Sahara and to the organisation of a self-determination
referendum for the Saharawi people before been brutally dispersed.
"Gendarmes immediately riposted with brutality which is the only way of
communication they have, so far, as an answer to peaceful
demonstration", he added.
"The confrontations are still raging (23.02 GMT), while first reports
talks about more than 40 person arrested even if it is still difficult
to get names. On another hand, the family of a Saharawi human rights
activist, Salek Bazaid, was expulsed from the campus against its will",
the correspondent of SPS indicated.
A first confrontation took place last Friday between Saharawis and
agents who do not allow them "to walk in small groups or even play the
normal collective games in groups", the same source indicated. (SPS)
