Casablanca,
31/07/2004(SPS) Moroccan political party, "Annahj Adomocrati" (the
democratic path) called for the organisation of "a referendum on
self-determination for Saharawi people", estimating that this is the
only way to resolve the conflict on the basis of the International
legality, reported the final communiqué of the party in its
recently held founding conference.
Held during the 16, 17 and 18th July in Casablanca after thorny
negotiations with the Moroccan authorities and after 30 years of
struggle against Moroccan secret services, the founding conference of
the Party stressed on "the need to adopt a solution to the problem of
the Sahara conform to the international legality and based on a
referendum on self-determination".
The Party called to a peaceful solution to the conflict, considering
that it is the only way "to avoid the dangers of the war" and "to
establish the basis to the edification of a Maghreb of the peoples,
which represents an inevitable historical obligation".
Observers noted that this political position in favour of the
self-determination of the Saharawi people, in addition to the positions
of many progressivist and democrat political advocates like the famous
Abraham Serfaty, is a new strike to the misleading Moroccan claim of
the so-called "national agreement" on the Saharawi question, Morocco is
claiming since the military invasion of the Saharawi territory in 1975.
