The Advisory Council calls the international community to oeuvre for the respect of the international legality in Western Sahara

  31.03.05

Aousserd, 31/03/2005 (SPS) The Saharawi Advisory Council (AC) called the international community to oeuvre for the respect of the international legality in Western Sahara and put an end to the sufferings of the Saharawi people allowing them to exercise their right to self-determination through a free and transparent referendum.

The AC interpellated the international community, in a press release publicised Wednesday, to "pressure Morocco so as to compel it to subscribe to the international law" and "to get rid of its fury that only leads to the sufferings of the two peoples, Saharawi and Moroccan" and "deprive the region from materialising its dream of the edification of the Great Maghreb Arab".

It also asked for the dismantling of the "wall of shame", which is a crime against humanity, dividing the territory all across 2400 Kms with more than 150.000 soldiers and supported by artillery and millions mines that still makes victims among innocent Saharawi citizens and their livestock.

The AC denounced "the Moroccan attempts backed by other countries," aiming at "punishing Saharawi people" via the use of the humanitarian aid "as a weapon for our defeat or capitulation". It reaffirmed that "theses methods would not push us to fold back of our attachment to our legitimate aspirations granted by all international conventions and all UN's resolutions."

It finally addressed a recognition and esteem to Algeria, under the wise leadership of His Excellency, Abdelaziz Bouteflika, on the occasion of the success of the 17th Arab League Summit and for its return to the international and continental scenes. It hailed its historical position of principle besides justice and law especially besides the Saharawi people and their just cause and inalienable right to self-determination and independence. (SPS)
