Bir Lehlu (liberated territories), 30/07/2006 (SPS) The Saharawi Government called on the international community to "exercise all needed measures and sanctions on the Moroccan Government to compel it subscribe to the international legality and enable the Saharawi people to exercise their legitimate right to self-determination through a free, regular and transparent referendum", according to a Saharawi official communiqué publicised Sunday by the Ministry of Information.

"The Saharawi Government rejects any approach outside the framework of the international legality and consequently rejects the manoeuvres aiming to consecrate the Moroccan fait accompli in the Western Sahara", underlined the communiqué publicised in reaction to the king of Morocco’s speech on the occasion of his enthronement.

"The king of Morocco only reaffirmed his position of intransigence and his clear refusal to implement the UN’s resolutions", the press release stressed in reference to the Moroccan proposition of autonomy.

The Saharawi Government also stressed the inconsistency of the Moroccan Government which calls for the implementation of the international Law in other conflicts while it "undermines this same Law in the Western Sahara".

The text also underlined the "flagrant violations" of human rights in the Western Sahara during this year, which was characterised by "a radicalisation of these violations against innocent Saharawi civilians".

The Saharawi Government finally asked for the "lifting of the military and Medias blockage imposed on the territory and to insist within the UN to implement urgent mechanisms to protect these citizens from the vendetta of the Moroccan occupier". (SPS)
