Algiers, 30/04/04 (SPS)
Polisario Front and the SADR's Government expressed their «full satisfaction»
with the adoption, on Thursday, of the resolution 1541 on Western Sahara,
in which the Security Council reiterates its attachment to the respect of
Saharawi right to self-determination.
In a press statement, SADR's Ambassador to Algiers, Mr. Mohamed Beissat,
estimated that through this resolution «the Security Council reaffirms
its support to the Peace Plan for self-determination of the people of Western
Sahara, as UN's Secretary General had asked in his report of the 23rd April
2004», considered as «the best solution» towards a final
resolution conforming to international law and legality.
«This resolution reiterates Security Council attachment to the respect
of self-determination principle in so far as the only basis for the settlement
of the conflict on Western Sahara, and reflects, again, international community
common consent in rejecting Moroccan colonial Fait accompli and Moroccan
attempts to create diversion», underlined the text of the declaration.
Saharawi political leadership, adds Mr. Beissat «highly appreciate
this international agreement about the fairness of our national cause»,
stating that his country is resolved to demonstrate its «complete availability
to sincerely and effectively cooperate towards the strict and full enforcement
of the Peace Plan», which aims at «allowing Saharawi people to
exercise their inalienable right to self-determination and independence».
The Saharawi Ambassador, finally, launched an appeal to Morocco «to
positively respond to this international agreement for the sake of a fair
and final peace, conforming to the Law in stead of taking pleasure in its
intransigence and rushing ahead».
It should be recalled that the Security Council has reaffirmed, in a resolution
unanimously adopted (resolution 1541) on Thursday, "its support to the Peace
Plan for the Self-determination of the people of Western Sahara", recalling
the resolution 1495 of the 31st July 2003, and considering that this plan
''constitutes an optimal political solution ''. (SPS)
