SPS SADR/SPAIN/MEDIA The solution should be found by
the two parties to the conflict, declares Mr. Mohamed Abdelaziz to El
Hayat
29.11.04
London, 29/11/2004 (SPS) The
President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Abdelaziz, affirmed that his
encounter last Friday with the President of the Spanish Government,
Luis José Rodriguez Zapatero, "assumes a special importance"
because it is the first of its kind with a Head of a European
Government, reported Algerian Press Service, APS
In a statement to the London's newspaper, "El Hayat", the President of
the Republic affirmed, however, that the solution to the conflict
should be found by the two concerned parties, in reference to
information talking about a Spanish plan for the settlement of the
conflict in Western Sahara that opposes Morocco to Polisario Front.
Mr. Abdelaziz declared that "Zapatero informed me that the Spanish
Government does not intend to implement and does not have any
settlement plan for the Saharawi question", adding that "the settlement
to the conflict" should be reached by the two parties, Morocco and
Polisario, conforming to the UN's resolutions".
Estimating that this meeting introduces a period of detente in the
European position, the Head of the State indicated that Spain must
assume its responsibilities towards Western Sahara, since it is the
former colonial power. Thus its commitment to implement the UN
resolutions could not be contradicted to its privileged relations with
the countries of the region".
The statements of the President of the Republic to El Hayat intervened
in margin of the 30th European conference of support to Saharawi people
(EUCOCO), which took place in Saragossa November the 26, 27 and 28, it
should be underlined. (SPS)
