Smara (refugee camps), 26/02/2006 (SPS) The Wilaya of Smara celebrated the 30th anniversary of the Saharawi Republic, this Sunday, with the presence of the athletes who will participate to the "Sahara marathon 2006", which will start in the Wilaya of El Aaiun this February the 28^th heading towards the Wilaya of Smara in the Saharawi refugee camps, SPS noted. 

The celebrations marking this historical event in the struggle of the Saharawi people for liberation and independence took place under the presidency of the member of the Polisario Front’s National Secretariat in charge for Political Orientation, Khatri Adouh, and the Governor of the Wilaya, Bouchraya Beyoun, with the presence of the Minister of Public Health, Boullahi Sid, and other members of Polisario Front’s political direction.

Folkloric and students parades were organised in front of the participants to express their support to the irreversible choice for the independence of SADR. 

On another hand the registration of the Saharawi and foreign athletes for the competition of the 6th edition of the Sahara Marathon started this afternoon in Smara, according to the organizers of this event. 

Athletes from Italy, Spain, America Germany, Portugal, UK, Norway, France, Algeria and the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic will dispute the  distances programmed in this  competition. 

Italian and Spanish delegations also took part to these celebrations that were prolonged by the visit of traditional tents and expositions of Saharawi handcrafts as well as paintings of Saharawi artists. 

The 30th anniversary of the Saharawi Republic was celebrated before in the Wilaya of Dakhla this February the 18^th as well as in the 27^th of February School, Aousserd, El Aaiun, respectively Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday, it should be recalled. (SPS)
