Demonstration of support to the Intifada in Mhamid El Ghezlan

Mhamid El Ghezlan (South of Morocco), 25/07/2006 (SPS) Saharawi citizens of Mhamid El Ghezlan organised a peaceful demonstration on Sunday evening in solidarity with their brothers, victims of the fierce oppression exercised by the Moroccan colonial forces of occupation in the occupied territories of the Western Sahara and South of Morocco, reported credible sources.

Demonstrators raised the Saharawi national flags and chanted slogans advocating "the Saharawi people’s right to self-determination and independence", as well as "the immediate withdrawal of the Moroccan occupation from the Saharawi territory", the same sources indicated.

The demonstrators marched in the main streets of the city before they were "savagely" dispersed by the Moroccan forces, it was added.

The Saharawi citizens in Mhamid El Ghezlan finally reaffirmed their "determination to pursue the Intifada of independence despite all sacrifices", the same sources underlined.

Algeria and Niger for the implementation of the UN’s resolutions in the Western Sahara

 

 


Algiers, 25/07/2006 (SPS) Algeria and Niger underlined, Sunday in Algiers, the "importance" of the implementation of the UN’s resolutions for "a just and lasting" settlement of the conflict of the Western Sahara, indicated a press release concluding a visit of the Niger Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mrs. Aichatou Mindaoudou, to Algiers.

The press release, quoted by the Algerian Press Service, APS, was signed during a ceremony that took place in the El-Mithak residency in Algiers, by the Algerian Minister of State, Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Mohammed Bedjaoui, and Mrs. Mindaoudou.

The two Ministers recalled "the importance of the respect of the international legality and the implementation of the pertinent UN’s resolutions for a just and lasting settlement of the conflict" of the Western Sahara.

The UN Security Council, been the international body in charge of finding a solution to the conflict of the Western Sahara, has voted many resolutions affirming the Saharawi people’s right to self-determination.

In July 2003, the UN Security Council unanimously adopted a Plan of settlement elaborated by Mr. James Baker, the Head of the US diplomacy during the presidency of George Bush (senior) and ex-Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary General, Mr. Kofi Annan.
