Khadad affirms that Spain must play the role Portugal played in the decolonisation of East Timor

Madrid, 25/04/2005(SPS) The Saharawi Coordinator with the UN Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO), M. MHamed Khadad, affirmed that "Spain must play the role Portugal played in the decolonisation of East Timor",  Sunday in an interview to the Spanish digital website. He estimated that the settlement of the Saharawi question within the framework of the international legality is in the interest of Spain France and the whole region.

The Saharawi diplomat criticised the position of Spain which declares to be "for a solution to the conflict within the framework of the international legality" while it "acts in favour of Morocco" in its "rejection of all UN's plans starting from 1991 to the last Baker plan".

He indicated that "the effective neutrality" of Spain in the Western Sahara conflict should be manifested in "the support to the international legality" like its position in Iraq.

"We must work for a democratic solution because only democracy is able to stabilise the great Maghreb and all the Southern Spanish borders", he estimated, underlining that it is "unacceptable that Spain gives Saharawis the peel and to the Moroccans the fruit".

"To impose on us a solution prepared in the corridors of power without our consent is just inadmissible", he said.

He asserted that Morocco would fail as ever "in its intentions to dominate the Saharawi people", saying that Saharawi people right to self-determination is the unique democratic solution to resolve the conflict. (SPS)
