Brahim Ghali: Morocco wants to ''hide the truth, at any cost'' about what
is happening in the Sahara 23.09.05

''These allegations are an insult to the integrity of these delegations and to the important role they play on the human rights and political levels'', underlined the Saharawi diplomat in a written statement, quoted by the Algerian Press Agency, APS.
The Moroccan Ambassador, it should be recalled, tried last Wednesday, in statements to the press, to justify the systematic expulsion of Spanish and foreign delegations from the occupied territories of Western Sahara, accusing them of been ''partial'' and pro- Polisario Front.
''These delegations illustrate, as clearly as it can be possible, the role that can be played by independent observers, who aim at revealing the truth and the real situation about a territory that is under a non finished decolonisation process and which is awaiting for a fair and definitive solution conforming to the international legality and under the auspices of the United Nations", the Saharawi diplomat underlined in his written statement.
The Saharawi Representative "energetically" denounced this ''Moroccan official position that is no more than a misinforming declaration and an ironical accusation that tries to create confusion and doubt and deform the truth via insulting women and men who were democratically elected by their peoples and who are representing the civil society and independent press''.
To Mr. Ghali, if the Moroccan position was ''conform with the universal principles, Morocco would have nothing to fear from'' these delegations. The successive expulsions of the foreign delegations, who try to investigate the situation on the ground, proves that Morocco ''has got things to hide, things that are certainly not conform to the international law'', he added.
On another hand, the Saharawi delegate denounced the Moroccan Minister of Justice, Mohamed Bouzouba, and Moroccan Ambassador’s declarations about the state of health of the 37 Saharawi political prisoners and the ''informative black out'' imposed on this question.
Recalling the legitimate nature of the Saharawi political prisoners’ claims, Mr. Ghali asked again for the immediate and unconditional release of all Saharawi political prisoners.
He stressed that ''the Moroccan responsibility in the tragedy Saharawi people are living remains complete", added to the ''invasion and occupation of the Saharawi territory" with all what follows, mainly ''bombing, forced disappearance, arbitrary detention, sequestrations and iniquitous trials".
Concerning the human rights situation in the Saharawi refugee camps, the Saharawi diplomat recalled that the camps receive visits of thousands official and non-official delegations that ''deny, via their testimonies, the false allegations of the Moroccan Ambassador and his Government’s'', the same source indicated. In this occasion, the interim Director of the CRA, Mr. Djelloul Baghli, affirmed that "the humanitarian aid of CRA should not be limited to the feeding and reception of Saharawi children". CRA must enable these children to start their school year on solid basis, he underlined.

On his side, the Le representative of the Saharawi Embassy, Mr. Hamid el Hafedh, affirmed that "Algeria supports Saharawi people since years, and here it is reaffirming anew its noble humanitarian position".
Par ailleurs, en marge de cette cérémonie, une exposition de photos et de dessins réalisés par des enfants sahraouis, durant leur séjour aux camps de vacances à Alger, a été organisée.

Held Sunday in the "Cité des sciences" (Théâtre de verdure- Algiers), the ceremony, which intervenes within the framework of the twinning between the Municipality of Algiers with El Aaiun’s (SADR), was also an opportunity for the Mayor of Algiers and the President of the CNASPS, to express their solidarity, and Algerian civil society’s support to Saharawi people, especially to "Saharawi political prisoners in hunger strike for the 40th day so far", Mr. Zeituni underlined. SPS WESTERN SAHARA/EUROPEAN UNION/MOROCCO
Considering the Moroccan occupation as "illegal" European parliamentarians
calls the EU to impose human rights’ respect in the Western Sahara
|

Brussels,
23/09/05 (SPS) During a seminar organised, Thursday in Brussels, by the
Socialist Group (PSE) of the European Parliament (EP), Austrian and Portuguese
Euro-parliamentarians qualified the Moroccan occupation of Western Sahara as
"illegal", exhorting the European Union to profit of the accords it has with
Morocco to compel it respect human rights in the occupied territories and enable
the decolonisation of the non-self-governing territory.
In this respect, the Portuguese socialist European parliamentarian, Mrs. Ana Gomes, considered that by this accord, Europe, "violated a major right : Saharawi people’s right to self-determination". She asked the EP to support Saharawi people’s "résistance" within the framework of the European initiative for democracy and human rights, reported Algerian Press Agency, APS.
On another hand, she criticised the European fishing accord with Morocco, which includes the Saharawi territorial waters, estimating that it was renewed in complete "illegality", and considering that the EU must urgently demand from Morocco the respect of human rights as an obligatory condition for any kind of current or future cooperation.
The Austrian European Parliamentarian, Mrs. Karin Scheele, on her side, exhorted the EU to give more importance to the human rights’ situation in Western Sahara, calling on the Moroccan civil society to take Saharawis’ rights into consideration.
Answering this calls, Mr. McDonald Alistair Bell, Director of the Coordination of Neighbourhood’s Policy in the European Committee, declared that the EU "firmly support the UN’s resolution on Western Sahara" and recalled that the European executive supports the Saharawi population within the framework of humanitarian aids.
The EU "cares for the enforcement" of the UN’s resolutions, he affirmed, estimating that its is through the framework of the EU-Morocco accord of association and the plan of action that the EU would try to compel Morocco respect human rights and international legality in Western Sahara.
Saharawi Minister delegated to Europe and Member to Polisario Front National Secretariat, Mohamed Sidati, called the European Union, during a meeting he had with the European Commission General Director for international relations, Mr. Eneko Landáburu, to urgently intervene so as to compel morocco put an end to the "inhuman, cruel and shameful policy" he adopts in the occupied territories of in Western Sahara.
On another hand he described the fishing accord signed by the European Commission with Morocco as a major "abuse of the international law and legality", in a press release he publicised Thursday to give a briefing on his meeting with Mr. Landáburu.
The Saharawi delegate called the EU to "enforce the Article 2 of her accord of association with Morocco. This accord, it should be recalled, requires from Morocco to respect the human rights, including the right to physical and moral integrity and security of these persons".
The PSE invited a Saharawi delegation to this seminar on human rights, composed of Mohame Sidati and Mrs. Najat Handi, Polisario Front’s Representative to Austria and member to the Saharawi Women National Union.
The meeting concluded on the necessity to strengthen the space of the human rights and women rights in the EU’s foreign policy, especially within the frameworks of accords of cooperation.
PSE defends the enforcement of a financial and political mechanism for the promotion of human rights and so as to cooperate with the civil societies to this end. (SPS)
