Seven persons arrested in the occupied city of Smara

Smara (Cultural capital of the Saharawi Republic), 23/02/2006 (SPS) Seven citizens were arrested by the Moroccan forces of occupation during demonstrations that took place on Tuesday evening and Wednesday in the cultural capital of the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic, Smara, to denounce the inhumane practices of the Moroccan forces against the Saharawi civilians in the occupied territories of Western Sahara, reported the correspondent of the SPS on the ground.

 

The demonstrators raised the flags of the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic and chanted slogans that advocating the immediate withdrawal of the Moroccan occupation, freedom and the independence of Western Sahara, the same source stressed.

 

The Moroccan forces of repression intervened via their different corps of repression, mainly the Auxiliary forces, GUS, PJ and DST, and sealed all the avenues of the city leading to the place of the demonstrations, the same source added.

 

They also arrested the young Saharawis, Hadi Hmada, Lehbib Varahni, Azzaz El Ouali, Barka Lakhdar, Chikhi Hamdi, Bakou Mohamed, Daoudi Mahmoud abducting them from the house of Salek Heda.

 

On their part, the mothers of the detainees organised a sit-in in front of the station of the Moroccan Criminal Police, asking for "the immediate and unconditional release of their sons", the SPS correspondent further stressed.

 

Flags of the Saharawi Democratic Republic were also raised last Tuesday by the students of the Boujdour city secondary school. They chanted slogans rejecting the Moroccan occupation and advocated the independence of the Western Sahara, before been harshly dispersed by the different Moroccan repressive corps.

 

These demonstrations intervene few days before the celebrations of the 30th anniversary of the proclamation of the Saharawi Republic, it should be noted. (SPS)
