Sydney, 21/10/2005 (SPS) The Australia Western Sahara Association (AWSA) organised, on Thursday in front of the New South Wells Parliament’s House, a demonstration of solidarity with the Saharawi people, denouncing Moroccan human rights violations in the occupied territories of Western Sahara and supporting the non-slf-governing territory’s right to independence, indicated a pres release publicised by AWSA on Thursday, SPS received.
The rally, which was marked by the participation of many political personalities and parliamentarians, was addressed by the President of the Legislative Council of the New South Wales’ Parliament, The Hon. Dr. Meredith Burgmann, followed by Mr. Kamal Fadel, Polisario Front’s Representative in Australia and Mr Nick O’Neill, President of AWSA, the press release indicated.
mong the participants to the demonstration, the presence of the Mayor of Marrickvill, Sam Byrne, the Deputy Premier of NSW, the Hon John Watkins and members of AWSA were noted, besides a large number of Australian citizens.
On another hand, the Secretary of Unions NSW, Mr. John Robertson, sent a message of solidarity and support, offering the union movement’s “ongoing commitment and support for the Saharawi people in their campaign for independence", the same source added.
The speakers emphasised the bravery of the Saharawi demonstrators in the occupied territories of Western Sahara, expressing their full support to "the political prisoners and demanding their right to self-determination", the text writes.
Further, those attending the rally "called on the Australian Government to protest against the human rights abuses by the Moroccan invaders and to press for the referendum on self-determination for the Saharawi people to take place as soon as possible", the press release concluded. (SPS)

SPS The President of the Republic starts a visit to the Balearic Islands on its Government’s invitation

Palma de Mallorca (Balearic Islands), 21/10/2005 (SPS) The President of the Republic, Mohamed Abdelaziz, arrived Thursday, heading an important Saharawi delegation, to the Palma de Mallorca for a three days visit on an invitation of the Balearic Government, indicated an authorised source, from the Saharawi presidential delegation, to SPS.
Mr. Abdelaziz started this visit with a meeting, at the seat of the presidency in Palma, with Mr. Jaume Matas, President of the Balearic’ Government, discussing the last developments of the Saharawi question, especially the visit of the UN’s Secretary General’s Personal Envoy, Mr. Peter van Walsum, the situation in the occupied zones where the heroic resistance of the Saharawi population is waging besides the question of the illegal immigration and its consequences on the region", the same source indicated, adding that the two parties did not forget to discuss "the bilateral cooperation and the aid the Balearic Islands are providing Saharawi people".
"There is an agreement of the points of view on all discussed questions", the same source added, underlining that Mr. Jaume Matas "expressed his preoccupation vis-à-vis the current situation in the territory and deplored the lack of engagement and pressures from the European countries who have a responsibility in the conflict, to make the dossier advance in the way of a just, definitive solution which is conform o the international legality".
With the presence of members of his executive, the Head of the Balearic Government thanked Polisario Front for "its responsible and human attitude in the face of the tragedy recently lived by African immigrants who were expulsed by Morocco", reiterating the availability of his Government to continue bringing its help to the Saharawi people, it was indicated.
At the end of the meeting President Abdelaziz expressed to his host his desire to received him in the camps of the Saharawi refugees for more strengthening of relations of cooperation and friendship between the two peoples and Governments.
On another hand, President Abdelaziz met with Mr. Pere Rotger I Liabres, President of the Balearic Parliament, with the presence of members of the intergrup "Peace for the Saharawi people", it was indicated.
This meeting was an opportunity to Mr. Pere Rotger to express his regret "of the non enforcement of the UN’s resolutions regarding Western Sahara", the same source added, and expressed "the solidarity of the Balearic Parliament with the Saharawi people for the full exercise of his rights to self-determination and independence".
On another hand, Mr. Abdelaziz and the delegation accompanying him also met with Mrs. Catalina Cirer i Adrover, Mayor of the city of Palma de Mallorca, the Mayor of Mancor del Vall, the President of del Fons mallorquin and the President of the Association of solidarity with the Saharawi people in Mallorca.
Tomorow, it was concluded, the President of the Republic will pay a visit to the Isla de Menorca. (SPS)
