(SPS) Algerian President, Abdelaziz Bouteflika, asserted Thursday in
Oran, that the Maghreb Arab Union "can not reach its objectives without
the decolonisation of Western Sahara conforming to the resolutions of
the Un and Security Council relevant to the question". He further
underlined "the need of the respect of the principle of peoples right
to self-determination", has reported Algerian Press Service, APS.
In a message read on his behalf by the Minister of the Moudjahidines,
Mr. Mohamed Cherif Abbas in Oran, on the occasion of the opening of the
commemorating ceremony of the double anniversary of the 20th August
1955, Mr. Bouteflika stressed that "the Maghreb Arab will not reach all
its integration as long as the question of the decolonisation of
Western Sahara is not achieved conforming to the concluded accords
between all the parties within the framework of the United Nations and
Security Council, and this within the respect of the relevant
resolutions on this question".
The solution to Western Sahara conflict, he indicated, "Inevitably pass
through the strict respect of the Charter of the United Nations,
especially in relation to the right of all peoples to
self-determination without any prejudice to their dignity".
Further he affirmed the readiness of Algeria to set stronger
relationships with the Kingdom of Morocco, underlining that "the
solution of the problems of the Maghreb Arab should be put in a
pertinent and accurate vision that take all present and future
unexpected events into account" (SPS)

The Non-Aligned reaffirm the necessity of a self-determination
referendum for the Saharawi people
Durban (South Africa) 20/08/2004 (SPS) The Council of Ministers of the
Non Aligned Countries reaffirmed the need of the organisation of a
self-determination referendum for the Saharawi people as an "optimum
political solution" for a peaceful resolution to Western Sahara
conflict, calling upon all the parties and the states of the region to
cooperate fully with the UN for the enforcement of the Baker Plan.
In a resolution unanimously adopted Thursday in Durbin the Ministers
expressed their "support for the peace plan for Self-Determination of
the people of Western Sahara as an optimum political solution".
The resolution, of which SPS received a copy, reaffirmed the support of
the Non Aligned movement to the "efforts of the United Nations to
organize and supervise an impartial, free and fair referendum in
accordance with relevant Security Council and United Nations
resolutions".
A Saharawi delegation chaired by the Minister for Foreign Affairs,
Mohamed Salem Ould Salek, took part to the opening ceremony of this
14th ministerial session of the movement in Durbin. It had many
contacts with the heads of the participating delegations, it was
