SPS Fikile Mbalula: "Our duty is to support the Saharawi people that are still struggling for their independence" 20.06.05

Durban (Kwazulu Natal- South Africa), 20/06/2006 (SPS) The President of the African National Congress Youth League, Mr. Fikile Mbalula, declared on Friday in Durban, during the 30 anniversary of the massacre committed by the forces of Apartheid in 1976 in Soweto, that the South African people "have the duty to support the Saharawi people, who are still struggling for their independence, without any conditions".
Mr. Mbalula, who was giving a speech in the Olympic stadium of Durban in addressing more than 50 thousands South African youngsters, coming from many regions in the country to celebrate this day, which is also the Youth Day in this country, and has declared that it "is unacceptable to accept this situation of colonisation, our duty is to support the Saharawi people, who are still struggling for their independence".
A Saharawi delegation, composed by Mr. Saleh Abeid, member of the Pan African Parliament, and Mr. Malainin Lakhal, Secretary General of the Saharawi Journalists and Writers Union, participated to this event, and was the only international delegation to be invited to join the presidency of the event and gave a speech addressing the South African youth that moved the audience. SPS A Saharawi delegation in a visit in South Africa to commemorate the anniversary of the massacre in Soweto

Durban (KwazuluNatal- South Africa), 20/06/2006 (SPS) A Saharawi delegation undertook a three days visit to South Africam ferom the 13th to the 16th June, to participate to the celebrations by the youth of African National Congress (ANC Youth League) of the 30th anniversary of the massacre of Soweto committed in the 16th June 1976 by the system of Apartheid.
The Saharawi delegation, composed by Mr. Saleh Abeid, member of the Pan African Parliament, and Mr. Malainin Lakhal, Secretary General of the Saharawi Journalists and Writers Union, has participated as a delegation of honour, to a Rally organised by the ANC Youth League in the Olympic Stadium in Durban.
The Rally was addressed by the President of the ANC Youth League, M. Fikile Mbalula, the vice-President of the ANC, Jacob Zuma, the President of the South African Commnist Party, Mr. Charles Maakula, the S.G of COSATO the biggest Trade Union in the country, Mr. Zwelinzima Vavi, the S.G of the ANC Women Union, Mrs. Bathabile Dlamini, with the presence of the South African and foreign personalities.
The Saharawi delegation was the only international delegation to be asked to join the presidency of the Rally and to address a speech that moved the audience.
On another hand, the Saharawi delegation met with many South African officials during its sojourn, including the Mayor of Johannesburg, Amos Mosano, who reiterated, Thursday the 15 June, its support to "the just cause of the Saharawi people and its legitimate struggle for freedom".
The Saharawi delegation has also visited the kingdom of Kwazulu Natal (South Africa), where it was received by the regional Executive Bureau of the ANC Youth League, before been received for launch by the Mayor of the capital of this kingdom, Mrs. Bongi Nomuga, accompanied by the Mayor of Mpofana, Mr. Sifiso Mkhize, in addition to the Councilor in the municipality of Ethekwini (district of Durban), Mrs. N.J Makhanya, and other personalities.
The delegation also undertook a visit to the historic city of Soweto, which was the theatre, in the 16 June 1976, to the biggest popular uprising in South Africa. (SPS)

SPS HCR calls the States and donator to increase the assistance to the Saharawi refugees

Algiers, 20/06/2006 (SPS) The UN High Commissioner for Refugees (HCR) called on the international donating States, on Monday, to increase the humanitarian aid to some 165.000 Saharawi refugees, deploring that the latter are "ignored" and "forgotten" by a large part of the world.
"I would like to launch an appeal, especially the international donating States, to increase the aid to the Saharawi refugees", indicated the representative of the HCR in Algeria, M. Peter Van Der Vaart, in a statement to the Algerian Press Agency, APS, at the eve of the celebration of the international day of the refugees, which will be celebrated on Tuesday.
Mr. Van Der Vaart recalled that the "problem of the Saharawi refugees exists for 30 years". To him, it is a problem of refugees "forgotten and ignored" by a wide part of the world.
The Saharawi refugees, Mr. Van Der Vaart stressed, are "poor" and depend on international aid, which is actually granted by the HCR, the World Food Programme (WFP), the UN Children Funds (UNICEF) and some NGO.
"The UNHCR has got a programme of basic aid to the profit of the Saharawi refugees, which touches many sector especially health, education and water, of about a 2 millions dollars per year", he indicated regretting that his organisation "do not succeed to finance it entirely". (SPS)

SPS Saharawi political prisoners condemn the attempt of assassination of the young Lehmam

Inzegan (South Morocco), 20/06/2006 (SPS) Saharawi political prisoners condemned, on Monday, the attempt of assassination against the Saharawi youngster, Lehmam Salama Brahim Mouloud, who is detained in the prison of Inzegan, who was stabbed with a knife by a Moroccan prisoner ordered by a responsible in this prison called Abdellatif.
The Saharawi political prisoner, Lehmam Salama Brahim Mouloud, was seriously wounded in his throat and ear, and had 15 stitches, indicated a press release issue by the prisoners the same day, of which SPS received a copy.
In the face of this "odious" crime, the Saharawi political prisoners asked for the opening of an investigation on the circumstances of the event so as to reveal the truth about the "implication of the Moroccan penitentiary authorities in this aggression", the text added.
They also asked for the evacuation of the victim to a hospital so as he can receive a free medical care against the psychological and physical effects he is suffering, asking for the arrest of the criminal and his presentation before court.
The Saharawi political prisoners finally called for the transfer of their compatriot from the prison of Inzegan to the Carcel Negra in El Aaiun near his family. (SPS)

SPS Four ex-political prisoners re-imprisoned in the Carcel negra and three others under torture

El Aaiun (occupied territories), 20/06/2006 (SPS) Four ex-political prisoners were incarcerated on Sunday in the Moroccan Carcel Negra (Black Jail) of El Aaiun after they were arrested on Saturday while they were driving back from Bojador and after they were submitted to "tortures" in a police station, indicated a press release publicised by a local human rights organisation.
The detainees, among whom the SG of the Saharawi Association of the victims of the serious human rights committed by the Moroccan State (ASVVGDHEM), Brahim Sabbar, were brutally ill-treated by the Moroccan colonial authorities before been driven to prison, ASVVGDHEM indicated in the same press release on Monday.
The victims are Mr. Ahmed Sbaai, member of the Executive Committee of the ASVGDHCEM, Heddi Mohamed Mahmoud El Kainan, an ex-political prisoner, and his brother, Heddi Saleh, it was indicated.
Three other Saharawi human right activists and ex-political prisoners, Taoubali El Hafed, Hmeidat Ahmed Salem and Laroussi Lehbib, who were arrested the same day in El Aaiun, are still under torture and interrogations in the police stations, the same source added.
"The seriousness of the situation in the occupied territories, and the precarious situation in which the Saharawi human rights activists are", led the President of the Saharawi Republic, Mohamed Abdelaziz, to write on Tuesday to the S.G of the UN, Kofi Annan, asking him to intervene urgently for the release of all Saharawi political prisoners. SPS Intensification of the oppression the Western Sahara, President Abdelaziz writes to Annan

Bir Lehlu (liberated territories), 20/06/2006 (SPS) "The seriousness of the situation in the occupied territories, and the precarious situation in which the Saharawi human rights activists are", including four of them who were recently arrested, pushed the President of the Saharawi Republic, Mohamed Abdelaziz, wrote the UN Secretary General, Kofi Annan, so s to urgently intervene for the liberation of all Saharawi political prisoners.
President Abdelaziz, who was hoping that "Morocco puts an end to the brutal repression and the intensification of the violations committed against the Saharawi civil population", was offended by "the extremely violent reactions of the Moroccan authorities, which excludes no group of the society".
He estimated that the current oppression has reached "unequalled proportions since it targets human rights activists" (...) "sometimes repressed in blood".
The Moroccan colonial authorities arrested, tortured and imprisoned last June the 17th a group of Saharawi human rights activists at the entry of El Aaiun upon their coming from Bojador where they created a branch of NGOs. (SPS)
