Smara (occupied territories), 19/07/2006 (SPS) Arbitrary detentions, tortures and other police exactions committed by the Moroccan colonial police against the Saharawi civilians were registered in June in the occupied Spiritual capital of the Western Sahara, Smara, according to the monthly report of the Saharawi Committee for the Defence of Human rights in (CSDDHS), publicised on June the 30th.

The organisation denounced the excessive use "of violence" by the Moroccan forces of occupation as a "mean of revenge" against peaceful demonstrators, "in total contradiction with the norms of the international law", the reports stressed.

The CSDDHS demands the opening of "a process of investigation" on the violations committed by the Moroccan auxiliary forces, knowing that there are many complaints and legal procedures presented to the Moroccan justice in Rabat by victims of these exactions.

The report unveils the serious nature of these crimes committed against the Saharawi civilians. It talks about arbitrary abductions, tortures ransacking of houses and collective punishments.

The Saharawi NGO finally launched an appeal to the international human rights organisations, NGOs and democratic forces in the world to "urgently" intervene so as to protect the human rights in the Western Sahara. (SPS)
