SPS The 14 Saharawis sentenced very heavily denounced a French association 18.12.05

|
Paris, 18/12/2005 (SPS) The French Association of the friends of SADR (AARASD) denounced on Friday the "heavy" sentences pronounced by the Moroccan colonial court of El Aaiun, against the Saharawi activists, whose "unique crime was to have expressed their conviction, that is to say their attachment to the self-determination and independence" of their people, according to a press release the association publicised the same day.
"It is a victory of the Saharawi popular mobilisation that is getting stronger every day regardless the intimidations and repression", the press release estimated.
The AARASD hailed "the courage and determination of the Saharawis, especially the 14 political prisoners who transformed the court to a platform".
The Association also thanked the lawyers, human rights’ associations who were present to the trial adding that "their vigilance also allowed imposing moderation to the Moroccan justice".
The Association of the friends of SADR in France also hoped that this "message will be listened to by a big number of Moroccans, who are concerned with the promotion of democracy", noting that "this progress will contribute to promote the causes of freedoms and justice". (SPS)

Algiers, 18/12/2005 (SPS) The Algerian National Committee of youth and education (CNAJE) reiterated on Friday its solidarity with the Saharawi population under Moroccan occupation, according to a press release by the Committee.
"At a moment when the world celebrates the day of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, at a moment when the UN is used to promote democracy, Saharawi people is still leading its struggle sealed by the bitterness of the Moroccan occupation and the failure of the international community in accelerating the solution of its national problem and in the acquisition of independence", the press release.
"Algeria, which was and remains a model for all peoples, in the rejection of colonialism, servitude and racial segregation, and who has clearly denounced all forms of colonialism and occupation, calls now to the decolonisation of Western Sahara and for the granting to the Saharawi people of their right to independence and freedom, as it did with East Timor", the text added.
"We, the Algerian youth, declare our complete solidarity with our brothers Saharawis who are suffering misery and Martyr in the Saharawi territories under Moroccan occupation", the press release underlined.
CNAJE finally called on the international community and all human rights organisations to "abandon their silence and to resolve the problem conforming to the doctrine of the UN" regarding the issues of decolonisation, the press release concluded.(SPS)
