Bir Lehlou (liberated territories) 18/10/2006 (SPS) The President of the Republic, Mohamed Abdelaziz, sent a message of congratulations to the new UN’s Secretary General, Ban Ki-Moon, after his designation.

Mr. Secretary-General, 

 

Following the approval of the General Assembly of your election as a new Secretary-General of the United Nations, I would like to extend to you, on behalf of the Government and people of the Saharawi Republic and the leadership of the Frente POLISARIO, our warm and sincere congratulations, and to wish you every success in your mission at the helm of the leading international organisation. 

 

We are confident that your rich professional expertise and well-known diplomatic experience, particularly within the United Nations, has made the representatives of all world nations elect you for this well-deserved and prominent position.   

 

All world citizens look at you with much hope to see justice, peace and respect for human and peoples’ right prevail in the world, and to achieve more development, prosperity, cooperation and integration among all peoples and nations.  

 

Mr. Secretary-General, 

 

The Saharawi people, who love freedom and justice, have been waiting for more than 40 years to have a chance to exercise their legitimate right to self-determination and independence in accordance with the UN Charter and resolutions like all peoples around the world.  

 

On this occasion, I would like to assure you that in the Frente POLISARIO and in the Government and people of the Saharawi Republic you will always have a serious and honest partner eager to cooperate and work for bringing about peace in Western Sahara on the basis of respect for the dictates of international legality.   

 

I would like to renew to you our warm congratulations and best wishes of every success.
