Bir Lehlu, 18/04/2005 (SPS) The Government of the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) and the Polisario Front renewed this Monday the attachment of the Saharawis to the international legality as established in the Settlement Plan (1991), the Houston Accords (1997) and the Peace Plan for the self-determination of the people of Western Sahara (Baker Plan 2003), during a meeting of the bureau of the National Secretariat, under the chairmanship of the President of the Republic.

Here is the complete text of the press release publicised today by the National Secretariat, of which SPS received a copy.

The bureau of the Polisario Front's National Secretariat (NS) met on Monday under the chairmanship of Mr. Mohamed Abdelaziz, President of SADR and Secretary General of Polisario Front.

The Bureau of the NS, having studied the last developments of the cause of our people at the national and international levels, hailed the determination of our people to continue its struggle for the National liberation until the achievement of the independence and sovereignty. The NS particularly hails the courage and abnegation of our population in the occupied zones, who continues facing the Moroccan occupant despite the fierce repression, deportation, arbitrary judgments, torture and forced disappearance.

The Bureau of the NS noted with satisfaction the official visit by the Foreign Minister of South Africa to SADR last April the 7th. This visit, which take place within the framework of the strengthening of the bilateral relations between the two countries allowed the two countries to sign an accord of cooperation. The South African Minister transmitted a message of support of her coutry to the highest authorities of SADR in favour of the decolonisation of Western Sahara on the basis of the exercise by the Saharawi people of their right to self-determination. The Bureau of the NS hails the position of the Government of the brotherly Republic of South Africa, under the leadership of His Excellency, President Thabo Mbeki.

The Bureau of the NS also hails the position expressed  by the European Parliament through the resolution it adopted Thursday and in which it asked the European Commission "to step up and diversify" the humanitarian aid to Saharawi refugees, taking into account that this population is in forced exile "because of an unfinished decolonisation".

The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Mohamed Salem Ould Salek, informed the Bureau on his last meetings with his Spanish counterpart, Mr. Miguel Angel Moratinos, and on the meetings of the Saharawi Coordinator with the Minurso, Mr. Mhamed Khadad, with the Swedish Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mrs. Laila Freivalds.

In this occasion the Bureau of the NS reaffirms, on behalf of the Saharawi people and its Government, the attachment of the Saharawi party to the international legality as established in the Settlement Plan (1991), the Houston Accords (1997) and the Peace Plan for the self-determination of the people of Western Sahara (Baker Plan 2003).

It also seize this occasion to launch an appeal to the Moroccan Government to submit to the international legality by fulfilling its engagements legitimately established and officially signed under the auspices of the UN and through which Morocco engaged side by side with Polisario to the full cooperation with the UN for the realisation of a just, free and regular referendum on self-determination to allow thus the definitive decolonisation of Western Sahara

Khadad calls the international community to save peace in Western Sahara

Stockholm, 18/04/2005 (SPS) Saharawi coordinator with the Minurso and Member of Polisario Front's National Secretariat, Mr. Mhamed Khadad, called the international community "to pay its utmost to save peace in Western Sahara by persuading Morocco subscribe to the UN's decisions and implement the Security Council's resolution 1495", during a conference organised Sunday by Swedish NGOs in the Centre ABF entitled "UN and war".

in his intervention, Mr. Khadad recalled the colonial character of the Saharawi question. The solution of this conflict is in the implementation of resolution 1514 (XV) relating to the right of self-determination to the peoples under colonial domination. A right the International Court of Justice strongly confirmed few days before the invasion of the Saharawi territory by the Moroccan forces of aggression in 1975.

The UN's efforts, he added, had certainly been hindered by the intransigence of Morocco who rejects all the prepositions adopted by the Security Council starting from the Settlement Plan of 1991 to the Baker Plan named "Peace Plan for he self-determination of the people of Western Sahara" passing by the Houston Accords.

He further indicated that the "the failure of the UN is the first responsibility of certain members of the Security Council especially France who pretend to be the champion of the defence of the international legality in Iraq while it tramples down the principles of the UN Charter in Western Sahara".

In this respect, Khadad, drew the attention of the audience to the responsibility of Europe in bringing a just peace in Western Sahara on the basis of the values of democracy parting from the respect of the inalienable right of the Saharawi people to freely decide over their destiny.

Speakers from Palestine, SADR, Colombia, USA, Sweden discussed with the audience the actions of the UN in favour of peace around the world. They called to the respect of the international legality in Western Sahara and to more engagement from the UN so as the Moroccan aggression be ended up like the Iraqi occupation to Kuwait was.

Mr. Khadad, who was received in Stockholm by the Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Sweden, Mrs. Laila Freivalds, has had many meetings with political personalities, members of Swedish Parliament from the different Swedish political parties, it should b recalled. (SPS)
