46 wounded, 58 arrestees and 11 ransacked houses after a demonstration in El Aiun on Friday

El Aaiun (occupied territories), 17/12/2005 (SPS) 46 persons, at least, were wounded and 58 others arrested during a big and peaceful demonstration that took place on Friday in the occupied capital of Western Sahara. Demonstrators were advocating Saharawi people’s right to self-determination and independence, concordant sources indicated.

Demonstrated raised the Saharawi Republic’s flags as a signal of their rejection to the Moroccan occupation of their territory. They were also chanting slogans in favour of the independence of the Western Sahara, the same sources indicated.

The demonstration crossed many streets and neighbourhoods of the occupied city before been brutally repressed by Moroccan forces of repression, who also ransacked some 11 Saharawi houses, according to the first records and information, knowing that the territory is put under a tight state of military and medias siege.

This demonstration occurred two days after the iniquitous judgement, by the Moroccan colonial court, of 14 Saharawi political prisoners sentenced between 6 months to 3 years, it should be recalled.
