Castilla y Leon's Parliament approved Tuesday a motion
in favour of the enforcement of the Baker Plan, underlining the
"historical commitment of Spain and Castilla y Leon to Saharawi
people's struggle for self-determination", indicated Spanish Press
Agency, Europa Press.
The motion, which was read by the President of the Parliament,
José Manuel Fernández Santiago, before the closure of the
plenary session of the Parliament of Castilla y Leon, reaffirmed the
support of the people of Castilla y Leon "to the enforcement of the
Baker Plan II for the self-determination" of the Saharawi people,
indicated the same source.
The Parliament members also exhorted "the competent authorities to pay
more efforts for the implementation of the Baker Plan II, elaborated by
UN' Envoy to Western Sahara, and endorsed by Security Council in its
resolution 1495 of the 31 July 2003", added Europa Press.
On another hand, the motion underlined the "historical commitment of
Spain and Castilla y Leon to Saharawi people's struggle for
self-determination", calling to the increase "of humanitarian aid to
the (Saharawi) population until the settlement of the conflict", added
the Agency.
It should be recalled that the motion is adopted after a visit
undertaken to Saharawi refugees' camps from 4 to 8 December by a
delegation from Castilla y Leon, chaired by the Counsellor to the
autonomous Government, Rosa Valdeón. (SPS)
