Chahid El Hafed, 14/04/04
(SPS) The President of the Republic, Mohamed Abdelaziz, called UN to pressure
Morocco to organise the referendum in Western Sahara, considering that the
international organisation «is too much complaisant with Morocco».
The Head of the state who was speaking during a luncheon offered at the honour
of an Australian delegation in a visit to SADR, on Tuesday, maintained that
«the UN has always asked Saharawis to give concessions while it is
too much complaisant with Morocco».
«Such attitude push Saharawi people to think that, in Western Sahara,
the UN is encouraging Morocco in its colonial fait accompli and inciting
it to persist in its intransigence», he added.
To a question about the state of mind of Saharawis after all these delays
in the settlement of the conflict opposing them to Morocco since the military
invasion of the territory in 1975, Mr. Abdelaziz, revealed that «Saharawi
political leadership finds itself under permanent popular pressures because
of the deception of the UN and the latter's tolerance with Rabat».
The President of the Republic, nonetheless, has renewed the availability
of Polisario Front to cooperate with the UN, underlining that his country
can not go further in giving concessions.
«We had always promoted a peaceful solution to the conflict and we
will continue cooperating with the international community and its relevant
bodies for this goal, but i twill be inhuman to ask us to allow the violation
of our rights and the occupation of our territory infinitely », he
stressed.
Finally, Mr. Abdelaziz launched an appeal to the international community,
in order to pay more efforts for the respect of the international laws in
Western Sahara and to institute peace and stability for the benefit of the
peoples of the region.
«Democratic Powers, Australia included, should pay more efforts and
exert more concrete pressures to push Morocco to conform with the international
legality. It is a question of credibility to the international bodies, and
by achieving this they will contribute to the establishment of peace in one
of the most important regions in the world, the great Maghreb», he
concluded.(SPS)

Australian demonstration in front of the wall of shame
Chahid El Hafed, 14/04/04 (SPS) An important Australian delegation on a work
visit in the camps and in liberated territories, has organised, last Friday,
a demonstration in front of the wall of shame, which is dividing the Saharawi
territories in two parts since the 80s, SPS has noted.
«We brought a protest panel, written in Australia, to express our condemnation
of the Moroccan wall of shame and we held a march to demonstrate in front
of this wall, which is dividing Western Sahara in two», underlined
the President of the delegation, The Honorable Dr. Meredith Burgmann, President
of the
Legislative Council of the Australian Labor Party (ALP).
On a work visit to the refugees' camps and liberated territories since the
7th April, the Australian delegation, composed of the different sections
of Australian society : Parliament, Lawyers, Teachers, Trade Union, Researchers,
Artists and Representatives of Australian Association of support to Saharawi
people (AWSA), made the trip to «study the life conditions and the
political situation of Saharawis in the camps and in liberated territories»,
stressed the President of the delegation in an answer to SPS question.
«This visit has strengthened our comprehension of the conflict and
we realised that we must put pressures on Morocco to respect the international
legality» underlined Mrs. Burgmann, considering that it is also necessary
to «put pressures on the international bodies so as they realise the
extent of the
tragedy of the Saharawi people, caused by the Moroccan colonisation of Western
Sahara».
«The delegation was impressed by the political maturity of the Saharawi
people and the organisational ability of the Saharawi state and Polisario,
who is ready to govern its country once completely independent», she
emphasised.
The delegation had visited many national institutions in the refugees camps
and liberated territories before been received by the President of the Republic,
Mohamed Abdelaziz, on Tuesday at the presidency, with the presence of members
of the National Secretariat and the Government .(SPS)
