Big quantities of humanitarian aid to Saharawi refugee camps coming from Algeria

Chahid El Hafed, 12/02/2006 (SPS) Diversified humanitarian aid, offered by Algeria to the Saharawi refugees, victims of inundations an drain that stricken the refugee camps these last four days, arrived their destination, indicated a Saharawi authorised source to the SPS.

 

"Algeria provided the refugees with 4.000 tents, 10.000 blankets, big quantities of drugs and diversified food", the same source added.

 

The source also stressed that the aid was sent starting from Sunday, "through a real air bridge of solidarity of Algeria preceded by a Special Envoy of the Algerian State, in the person of the Algerian National Director of Civil Protection accompanied by an important delegation, which was received on Sunday by the President of the Republic, Mohamed Abdelaziz, at the seat of the Presidency".

 

The Envoy of the Algerian Government expressed to the Head of the Saharawi State the solidarity and support of Algeria, people and Government, under the leadership of President Abdelaziz Bouteflika, with the Saharawi people, affirming the Algerian readiness "to provide all the necessary aid to the Saharawi refugees to surmount this problem".

 

The Algerian National Popular Army (ANP) dispatched specialised medical teams, composed of doctors, mobile clinics very well equipped, ambulances in addition to food, drugs and water trucks and bulldozers, it should be recalled. (SPS)

SADR/SAHARAWI REFUGEES/FLOODS

 A Unit of crisis constituted to ensure the follow up of the developments of floods in the Saharawi refugees camps     

 

 

 

 

Chahid El Hafed, 13/02/2006 (SPS) The Government of the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic constituted a cell of crisis in charge of "ensuring the follow up an the good implementation of the measures adopted by the Saharawi State so as to face the results of the floods" and rain that stroke th Saharawi refugees camps since last Thursday, indicated an authorised governmental source to SPS.

 

Composed of the Ministers of Interior, Health, Transportation, Equipment and a delegate from the Ministry of Education, in addition to the Secretary General of the Government, the President of the Saharawi Red Crescent and the Director General of the Protection of Institutions, the Unit of crisis will hold daily meetings and assume the responsibility of the good implementation of the measures and decisions adopted yesterday by the Council of Ministers during an extraordinary meeting the Council held Sunday at the seat of the Presidency.

 

"The Government decided the immediate distribution of all the aid and assistance coming from Algeria to the disaster-stricken refugees, the adoption of all necessary measures to prevent against the possible epidemic diseases and sicknesses, the mobilisation of all services and authorities to guarantee the good management of the situation", among other decisions, the same source said.

 

The Government of the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic held an extraordinary meeting of its Ministers’ Council, under the chairmanship of the Head of the State, Mohamed Abdelaziz, at the seta of the Presidency, with the presence of the local authorities of the different Wilayas and services to discuss the last developments of the situation in the Saharawi refugees camps after the floods.

 

The meeting adopted many decisions and measures of emergency and long term decisions, to face the current situation that resulted from the torrid rain and floods that stroke the camps these last days. (SPS)

MOROCCO/DEMONSTRATIONS       

The inhabitants of Mhamid el Ghezlan in uprising against the abusive arrest of Doctor Sbai Labbas     

 

 

 

 

 

Mhamid el Ghezlan (south of Morocco), 13/02/2006 (SPS) The inhabitants of the region of Mhamid el Ghezlan (jurisdiction of Ouarzazate) are in uprising against the abusive arrest by the Moroccan authorities of Doctor. Sbai Labbas, arrested in the February the 02nd, and iniquitously judged to 6 months imprisonment in a trial that did not answer the basic conditions of fairness. They call for his immediate release, reported concordant sources from the region.

 

The inhabitants of this region recently organised a big march of protest, which headed towards the Moroccan court of the city of Zagoura, "to protest against the arrest of their son, ask for his immediate release and condemn the abusive practises adopted by the Moroccan authorities against any honest, courageous and useful person to his society or region", affirmed one of the sources.

 

information affirm, on another hand, that the inhabitants of Mhamid el Ghezlan will organised demonstrations, sit in, and will soon organise another march, this time, heading to Ouarzazate, where the court of appeal will judge MR; Sbai this February the 15th.

 

The prisoner, from his side, decided to start an unlimited hunger strike in protest against his abusive arrest and unjust trial.

 

Son of the late Mohamed Cheij Sid Labbas Sbai, an imminent resistant against the French colonialism, Mr. Sbai was arrested by the Moroccan authorities in February the 02, brought to the court of 1st instance in Zagoura in the second day with out the assistance of any lawyer, sentenced to 6 months imprisonment and will be presented to the court of appeal in Ouarzazate on Wednesday 15, of February.

 

The Saharawi Ministry of Occupied territories and Communities recently wondered in a press release, of which SPS received a copy, if the Saharawi origin of the Doctor has anything to do with his arbitrary arrest and iniquitous judgement.

 

"How can it be possible to abusively arrest a honest citizen, who decided to invest his knowledge, experience and wealth to help his community to surmount the precarious economical and social situation that prevails in Mhamid el Ghezlan, his hometown", the text wondered.

 

The press release further underlined that "the Saharawi people, who suffered exile and repression because of the colonialism in Western Sahara, expresses its solidarity with prisoner Sbai, and ask for his immediate and unconditional release".

 

It also expressed "its support to the inhabitants of the region in general, and to Mhamid el Ghezlan and the tribe of Aarib in particular in their resistance against the Moroccan repression and injustice".

 

Son of a wealthy and resisting family, the Surgeon Sbai studied in Morocco, then in Russia, moved to Switzerland to deepen his studies and lived and worked their.

 

He decided to return to his hometown, Mhamid el Ghezlan, to build tourist and cultural projects and was very active in the preservation and defence of the heritage of the region. (SPS)

The Saharawi Republic records the Spanish position in favour of te Saharawi people’s right to self-determination     

 

 

 

 

Chahid El Hafed, 13/01/2006, (SPS) The Government of the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic "recorded", on Sunday, the position of the Spaish Government that was expressed at the end of he meting, last Friday, between Spanish Foreign Affairs Minister, Miguel Angel Moratinos, and Mr. Peter Van Walsum, UN’s Secretary General’s Personal Envoy to Western Saharan declared Saharawi Minister of Information, Sid Ahmed Batal, to SPS.

 

"The Government of the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic records the content of the press release of the Spanish Foreign Affairs Ministry, which clearly determined that two parties to the Western Sahara’s conflict, to name Polisario Front, the legitimate representative of the Saharawi people, and the Kingdom of Morocco", Mr. Batal declared.

 

This position, which is coherent wit the international legality, confirms one more time that "the just and lasting solution to the conflict of Western Sahara is that one that will enable the free and transparent self-determination to the Saharawi people", he concluded. (SPS)
