SPS Aminetou Haidar received by the President of Toscane 12.06.05

Roma, 12/06/2006 (SPS) Saharawi human rights activist, Mrs. Aminetou Haidar, who is undertaking a turn in Italy to raise awareness on the situation n the Western Sahara, was received on Saturday by the President of the Italian region, Toscana, Claudio Martini, who renewed the engagement and active solidarity of the authorities and population of his region with the Saharawi people.
During the meeting the Saharawi militant informed her host about the last development and dramatic situation lived by the Saharawi population in the occupied territories.
"Intimidations, arbitrary arrests and torture against peaceful activists and human rights defenders, are the daily life of the Saharawi population in the Saharawi zones Morocco occupies", underlined Mrs. Haidar, the symbol of the Saharawi peaceful struggle against the Moroccan occupation and who has recently won the Spanish Committee for the Aid of the Refugees “Juan Maria Bandres 2005 Human Rights Price”.
Mr. Martini reaffirmed o Mrs. Haidar his personal engagement and that of his region to contribute to find a solution to the Saharawi question and to help the Saharawi people get their right to self-determination.
In this respect, he indicated that he will soon discuss the subject with the Vice-President of the Council and the Foreign Affairs Minister, Massimo D'Alema, so as to draw their attention to the hard conditions the Saharawi population is living only because they want their freedom and independence.
Aminetou Haidar had started a turn in Italy, starting by paying a visit to Florence, within the framework of a campaign of mobilisation on the situation in the occupied territories of the Western Sahara.
Meetings in Bologna and Roma with the authorities and personalities are also subscribed in the agenda of the Saharawi militant, who will be received last June the 14th by the Vice-President of the Chamber of Deputies, Mr. Carlo Leoni. (SPS)

SPS A Saharawi Parliamentarian delegation visiting Switzerland

Geneva, 12/06/2006 (SPS) A Saharawi Parliamentarian delegation is undertaking, since June the 8th, intense activities in Geneva, following an invitation from the Swiss Parliament (the federal Assembly), as a first stage of a turn that would lead the delegation to Lausanne and Berne.
Composed of Mr. Hafdalla El Abd, President of the Economic Committee, Mrs. Khadija Hamdi, Representative of the Saharawi Women Union, the member of the Economic Committee, Mr. Haboub D'Khil, President of the legal and Organisational Committee, the Saharawi Parliamentarian delegation took, Thursday, to a session of the Geneva High Council (Parliament), where it was warmly applauded by the deputies.
In June the 09th, the Saharawi Parliamentarian delegation met with the President of the Legislative Committee and the Control and administration at the seat of the Council. The meetings discussed a number of questions of common interest, especially the exchange of experience between the two legislative institutions.
The same day, the Saharawi delegation was received at the seat of the UN High Commissioner for the Refugees (HCR) by Mrs. Ruvendrini Menikdiwela, Head of the Sector of North Africa and Middle East and her assistant, Mr. Gil Mirtenbaum.
Mrs. Ruvendrini answered to the Saharawi delegation concerns reaffirming the availability of her organisation to bring the needed help to the Saharawi refugees and to pay efforts to resume the UN confidence-building measures, especially the families visits exchange between the Saharawi families separated by the Moroccan occupation, which were recently hindered by Morocco.
