El Aaiun (occupied capital of the SADR), 12/01/2005 (SPS) Saharawi citizens in the different occupied cities of Western Sahara and south Morocco celebrated the holidays of "Id Al Adha" with demonstrations, started since last Tuesday and pursued in Wednesday and Thursday, "rejecting the Moroccan occupation of their territory and asking for the independence of Western Sahara", reported concordant sources on the ground.

"The Saharawi populations of the occupied cities of El Aaiun, Smara, and south Morocco, in Tan Tan, got out in sporadic demonstrations, at different hours of the Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, the day of the official celebration by Morocco of the Id Al Adha. They rejected the Moroccan occupation of their territory, asking for the independence of Western Sahara and asking for protection from the oppression and segregation exercised against them by the Moroccan colonial regime", the same sources added.

IN this respect, demonstrations broke in El Aaiun and Smara, followed by massive intervention by the Moroccan forces and many confrontations between demonstrators and the colonial authorities. "These interventions resulted in the wounding of many Saharawi demonstrators, mainly Mrs. Ghlana Muly Ahmed, and Mr. Cherfi Hamdi in Smara, while dozens other wounded citizens remain unidentified", one of the sources indicated to SPS.

In the South of Morocco, mainly in Tan Tan, a big demonstration was organised by the Saharawi population in the city "in solidarity with the family of the late young, Lekhlifi Abba Cheij", a young Saharawi killed under torture by a Moroccan officer in Tan Tan, without any reason.

"Moroccan colonial authorities, once again, used excessive force to disperse the Saharawi demonstrators wounding the sister of the late Lekhlifi, Mrs. Lekhifi Maydouna, as well as Mr. Sahel Mohamed, Mr. Kerdelas Ahmed and Mr. El Aatiq Ahmed", it was added.

The flags of the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic were raised by demonstrators, who chanted slogans calling for the immediate withdrawal of the Moroccan occupation from Western Sahara and asking for the Saharawi people’s right to self-determination and independence. (SPS)
